Unlocked Sony Ericsson S500i but can't use Internet

Hi. We are new to this site. Thanks for all the info. My daughter just purchased the new S500i, unlocked. She loves it. She is able to call, and text but cant send or receive multimedia or pictures. We took the phone to cingular (or att) and they said to call sony Ericsson. So here I am researching. Anybody come across this? How do I fix it.
