I bought my Dash off ebay and I've bought lots of other phones that way, too. Be sure your seller has been registered with ebay for more than a short time (several years or more is reassuring) and I'd read ALL the comments that have been left. See if they are comments about your seller as a seller, not a buyer. Finally, be sure that the ebay protection (I forget what it is called) applies to the auction. I've gotten one dud phone that I finally was able to get a refund on from paypal.

Listen guys right now I'm running the phone off my wi-fi connection at home and it's cool driving around and picking up soo much other wi fi too and going online, well once they aren't locked.
But I did get online from me phone carrier but I did something and now I can't get it back on. there's soo much to learn I can't get to dl the t-mobile windowns mobile 6 because I'm not one of their customers but this phone is wicked, well worth the $349 I paid including shipping plus unlocking at an extra $40 which I'm going to charge back to the seller because he was to send it unloced.

Hey guys i got wifi working on my dash, but i have a problem, if i read something on a website for a little too long, then try to click on a link or go to a new website, everything times out, as if i have no network, so i have to shut wifi off and turn it back on to get it working again, does anyone know what the problem is? and this post WOULD have been from my dash, but for some reason when i clicked submit, it would just show me the text i typed in, and yes i know i wasn't pressing preview for a fact, anyone know what's up with that either?

As you have probably discovered by now if you did take the plunge and buy your Dash, is that the previous posters were full of it. T-Mobile requires a data plan before they allow WIFI connectivity. You can discover WIFI devices and log in to access points, but without a data plan you get a "Cannot connect to the network" error.
I had just flashed my ROM to the new WM6 and I was surprised that I had WIFI access enabled (without a data plan). However, after a couple days I was back to the limiting effects of the TMobile service plan.
Are the people who are able to connect via WIFI without a data plan using an unlocked phone? If so, please let me know what type of unlock (SIM, CID, application) is required.

you dont have to have a DATA PLAN using wi-fi. i have the $5.99 hack, works great, i am able to surf all pages and check my email. you dont need an Unlocked phone to get the wi-fi or data plan to work. good luck!

I think you made my point. While you don't have to have the $20 Blackberry plan, or the $40 Total Internet Solution, you ended up having to by the $6 hotspot plan. It is a data plan and although the phone can do wifi without a data plan, T-Mobile won't allow it.

I don't think you know what your talking about. Tmobile offers 1 and only 1 data plan at $6 and it is tzones, a wap based data plan that works on every one of their phones. It uses a grps/edge connection, not wifi. The hotspot plan, the one that gives you access to starbucks, airports, hotels, etc. where there are tmobile hotspots is a lot more, like 20 or 30 a month. Tmobile does allow this phone to work without a data plan, and you don't have to be using their wifi.

Just goes to show you the quality of responses you can get from the Internet.
From the T-Mobile website; they offer three (3) data plans:
HotSpot - $19.99
----------------
Make the most of your time -- get unlimited high-speed wireless Internet access for your PDA or laptop at places you already go, including Starbucks, FedEx Kinko's, Borders Books and Music stores, Hyatt hotels, and airports.
T-MobileWeb - $5.99
-------------------
Search the mobile web, find directions to the places you want to go, get local, international and financial news, stock quotes, weather, sports, play online games, email, community chat and more, right at your fingertips anywhere you go.
T-Mobile Total Internet Add-on - $29.99
---------------------------------------
T-Mobile Internet with Hotspot
On a "stock" T-Mobile Dash you have to have one of these plans to enable WIFI access, whether thru your own wireless access point, or one at work, or wherever. Yesterday, I unlocked my phone (using T-Mobile's own unlocker service, dial 611), and I can now access WIFI again without a data plan.
