I have been having that problem with my Tracfone Motorola C261. Tracfone has transferred my number and units to three different phones.

I thought it was related to using the car charger. I stopped using the car charger and tried again tonight (8/5/07). When I disconnected the phone from the charger and tried to make a call, I again got the "Max Call Number are Reached!" error message.

This wouldn't be so bad if I could just reset it. After hours on the phone with Tracfone customer service, they agree to give me a new phone and some more units for my inconvenience.

I use the Nokia car charger that Tracfone gave me with an adapter to connect to the Motorola.

Is it possible that something from the car charger is messing with my phone?

Tracfone is sending me a fourth new phone.

I have contacted Motorola tech support. They agree it is a software error.

I've asked if they have a software fix. I'll share their reply.

If as you say its in Tracfone's computer, I probably can't fix my own phone.

What is odd is the it seems to occur after I try to charge my phone in the car.

I just used the phone it three area codes over a couple of days. Could that have triggered the software error? I can't recall if the other times this happened were immediately after using it outside of my primary service area.

Has your phone been fixed or service restored?

Tracfone sent a replacement Motorola C261 which is working fine for now. Motorola is sending one of their own car chargers. Motorola says Tracfone is responsible for fixing the software error.

My research supports what your friend said that the error we keep getting is a software error probably caused by some incompatibility between our phones' software and someone's network or carrier or cell tower operating system, etc.

Perhaps our phones bump into someone's software that locks their cell phones into their system and locks out everyone else's

Seems the cell phone world is a chaotic mess of conflicting and incompatible software.

While I no longer think my car charger directly causes the problem, I still wonder if while charging from the car and maintaining a connection to a network, my phone is more vulnerable to this software error.

I will not use the new Motorola car charger until Tracfone has an easier fix than replacing my phone and SIM.

The same thing happened to me one day out of the blue when I went to
make a call. I have a Motorla V176 I purchased at Target about 15
months ago. I didn't have it charged for a few days, and then it
seemed like it wouldn't take a charge. But really everything seemed
(and still does) fine with the phone!

It stated " Max Call Numbers are Reached! X "

.all I wanted to say was W.T.F.!

Anyhow, I called tracfone on my landline at 800-964-4836. They didn't
state what was wrong, but said they would send me a new phone within
3-4 days, and I would need send mine back within 30 days.

I gave the customer service person my IMEI which is listed under the
prepaid folder on my phone. They said I would get credit for my
unused minutes. I didn't think about asking them if the lifetime
double minutes I already paid for was going to still work, but it
better! It is going to be a hassle to be without a phone for a
while, and a bigger pain to transfer the whole address book of phone
numbers to the new phone! I suspect there is some software problem.
.strange how it may be!

We experienced the same thing. We had a phone that had been working for months. Sometime in February, it powered off and when we powered it back on, the display started showing 'units' instead of 'minutes' and we could no longer make or receive phone calls without being blocked by a message that read "Max Call Numbers are Reached".

Do not assume that your minutes will transfer from one phone to another without yet more effort on your part. I'm on my third replacement phone and spent over an hour this morning with tech support trying to get the minutes "transferred" from the first defective phone. Since they were never available for me to use, I asked that the expiration date be moved out to 90 days from today (as stated in the offer I purchased). I had to register a protest with the supervisor in order to get an additional 30 days, but they haven't yet shown up on my phone. I was out of time and had to get to work so I will have to call them again. This has been unbelievably frustrating - and so unlike the Tracfone I had years ago that I bought at Target and got up and running in just a few minutes without any problems. Even though they kept promising me an upgraded phone, they sent the same crappy model every time. If I didn't need something that would work in upstate New York where I'm going on vacation soon, I'd tell them to just refund my money and start over with another company.

1. First, charge your phone fully.
2. Then remove the back of the phone (Battery/SIM card cover).
3. Remove the battery.
4. Now remove the SIM card.
5. Rub the SIM card against your hand, arm, or other patch of bare skin several times (shiny side against your skin).
6. Reinsert the SIM card.
7. Reinstall the battery.
8. Replace the back phone cover (Battery/SIM card cover).
9. Turn on the phone (It will probably ask you to set the Date, Time, and Date Style. Do so.).
10. Phone will probably come up with "No Service." That's ok, just wait a few minutes.
11. When service is restored, try to place a call.

Don't know if this will work for you, but it fixed my phone.
