Hi,

I just bought a new unlocked Samsung U700 and I am using it in the US. I am using the AT&T network. The problem I am having is the following:

When I get a voicemail I get the indicator telling me that there is a voicemail. I go listen to it and delete it, and right after I exit my voicemail, I get an empty text message. The sender of this text message is the greek "delta" sign. In addition, the voicemail indicator (that tells me there is a new voice mail) never goes away.

I tried turning the phone off and removing the battery and SIM card for a few minutes, but that didn't help. I found some sites online in which people describe having the same problems with other phones (not the U700). From what I found, it seems that the text message is AT&T's attempt to remove the voice mail indicator from my device, which doesn't get interpreted successfully from the phone. Is anyone familiar with this issue? Is there something I can do about this in order to fix this? The other sites I found, mention that you can change some hex code on the phonte to fix this. It is not clear to me if this change is the same for all phones or not.

Unfortunately it won't let me post any links here.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Man, we need a "search" feature around here. Oh wait, we DO have one, we just don't USE it.

It's not a problem, just a phenomenom of an unbranded phone. There are some edits that can be done (well, on the Razr V3, anyway), but in my mind, it's just best to leave it alone and deal with it. Or get the At&T software put into your phone.

One of the few drawbacks of an unbranded phone.

Hi Geri,

Thanks for your repsonce. Do you know where I can find information in making these edits for my Samsung phone? Would such edits be for my specific Samsung model, or they would be general for all Samsung cell phones? If there is no way for me to find information to make these edits, do you know where I can get the AT&T software? What are the drawabacks of using their software?

Thanks,
Mike

P.S I did use the search feature and did find your previous post regarding this issue on the Razr. That's the one I am refering to in my original post.

Hi Manny,

I was able to connect to the internet. I just had to use the correct AT&T/Cingular info, and that did it for me. I have to go to work now though so will write back a bit later. The delta sign unfortunatly was not fixed. If you want, post your email address, and we can discuss more. I looked hard on ways to solve this, but was not able to fix it.

Hi Manny,

So here is the info to use in order to connect to Cingular/AT&T network with your U700.

Create a new connection with the following settings:

Set name: use whatever name you want here
Access name: wap.cingular
Auth type: Secure
User ID: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
Protocol: WAP
Gateway Address: 66.209.11.61
Secure connection: Off
Linger time: 300
Advanced settings: there are not needed

Hope this helps. Let me know if you come across any problems.

As far as the msgs from "delta" you receive after you delete msgs from your voicemail, unfortunately I couldn't find a way to fix this. I have a good understanding as to what cases them, but don't have any way of fixing it. There are ways to fix this by changing some of the code in the firmware of the phone, but couldn't find any instructions as to how to do this. Hopefully if more and more people use this phone with Cingular/AT&T, someone might post some solution to this.
