Sounds like key is either stuck in or the keypad membrane needs replacing

the keypad membrane can be replaced? who would do something like that or where can you buy a new keypad membrane? thanks, I think this might be it. I realized it is also making a continuous high pitched sound, so maybe a key is stuck, I will check that out also.

Its pretty easy to do. You can buy new membranes at www.cnn.cn or ebay

Thanks to mikekay10, it was the membrane. I ordered one from the website you recommended and it works fine now. Why wouldn't the phone tech I called know these things? She said it's broken and 2 months out of warranty. Thanks again

I am having this same problem. I see that I need to buy a new keypad membrane - once I have it, how can I install it?

I had the same problem with a razor: only the on/off key worked. The solution that worked for me was a simple cleaning, I didnt have to buy a membrane. To do this, you have to take the top apart (the part that has the camera), and clean a connector with alcohol. Its a bit challenging, so I'll explain. First you will need to take the 4 front tiny rubbers out of their spots (near the big LCD screen), one in each corner then you will need a special STAR screw driver, ( I used a tiny flat-head screwdriver and was careful not to strip the screw head). Next you will have to pry the back open with a small flat screw driver. There are two connectors visible, one connects to the camera the other goes back into the hinge of the phone. You'll need to clean the connecter that goes back into the phones hinge. Gently pry the silver top of the connector until it seperates and clean it with a q-tip and alcohol, let it dry, reconnect it, then try the phone out. I had to clean it 2 or 3 times so i wouldnt screw the phone back up until you try it, but eventually it worked good as new.

Well, I already bought the membrane, so I might as well use it. Do you know how to put it in?

Not a clue. If you are comfortable taking your phone apart and experimenting to try to make it work, go for it. If not, search the internet, you arent the first person to have to replace the membrane. Good luck.

Thank you so much for this post! I was really bummed when my 7 month old got ahold of my phone and my keypad stopped working, due to the amount of drool. Luckily I came across this article step by step. It works now!
