Yes, but that would be too easy for some of these people.

I had the same problem today with a motorola/at&t phone that my friend lent me. My parents have at&t, so I used their phone to call up customer service pretended to be my father and told them I had an old motorola phone I wanted to unlock to give to a friend. I gave them the IMEI number on the inside back of the phone and within a minute they had the unlock code for me.

So yeah, just have someone who has an account with the initial service provider of the phone you want to unlock call customer service for you.

no need for the academy award winning act.(kudos for effort tho)

if you can verify the account and have the corect reason the unlock will be done.in most cases customer care can guve an unlock code over the phone within seconds. if not they will file a case and have it emailed to you (about a week later).

just a tip. if you have a brand new phone. and want it unlocked.(with the exception of the iPhone) just call customer care and say you want to unlock for international travel.

The problem is that my cell phone service provider is T-mobile, but the phone I wished to have unlocked was an at&t phone, so only they could unlock it - that's why the academy performance came in.

I've had my t-mobile phones unlocked for international travel by just verifying my account, as the elmo01 suggested. But if you are trying to unlock a phone to use on your account, then it's most likely locked by another provider, which is when you should have someone with a valid account with that provider do it for you, or if they trust you with their info, like a relative, then you can do it yourself.

Later Dayz

doesnt make a difference. the rep will ask you where you got the phone.if it is att equipment and NOT STOLEN and not a Nokia you can get the unlock code on the spot.tell the rep you got it at a yard sale.you do not have to be an att cutomer to get an unlock code ( I am a rep. I'm lookin at the rules). if the device is a nokia a subsidy unlock case will have to be raised and you will get the code in about a week
