Hello everyone.
I have an older Cingular/AT&T family plan, before they merged. Recently my mom's phone died (nokia 3595). I bought a prepaid Motorola C168i from Best Buy, branded AT&T. I was wondering if its locked because when I put in my old sim it asks for "Network PIN:" I tried using the PUK provided on AT&T's myWireless page for my account, did not work.
I called AT&T and they said a new phone will not work with my old plan and that I'd need to buy a new plan to use a new phone. Can I use a different (relatively inexpensive phone) with my old plan, or have it unlocked? Nothing comes up when I search the net for "Network PIN:" problems. I figured I wouldn't need to unlock it since I'm using the same provider and SIM.
Any help?
Thank you,
David

what are the first 4 digits of your old sim card. 8931 or 8901?

Any idea what to do? I realize that it's a 32K sim card and the newer ones are 64K. but AT&T won't give me one that will work because they desperately want me to get a new plan which is more expensive than what I'm paying now. Could I buy another unlocked phone like a w810i or razr v3? Would those accept my old 32K sim?

are you old Cingular or old AT&T? If you are old Cingular ("Orange") then you can upgrade your sim with no problem. If you are old AT&T ("Blue") then you'll need to either change your plan or buy an unlocked phone.

Thanks Celtic. I am an old AT&T member. Phone is AT&T and the sim is blue AT&T sim. I think I will look for good deals on unlocked phones then.

Like you I am a FORMER ATT Customer since pre-Cingular days
I am NOT going to be coerced into changing to a more expensive CINGULAR plan
I buy new unlocked v551 phones and new OLD BLUE ATT SIMS from ebay
I figure that that way I am safe for a while when CINGULAR tells me they cannot find any SIM crds
