Am thinking of buying my first PDA and am looking at the AT&T Tilt phone. I dont need IM or Internet or music. But it has to sync with Outlook on my PC. What options would meet my needs? Thanks

Good thread. Here's another variable. For some years, I've only needed a PDA -- no phone. I've used a Dell Axim x51 which has been great. I can use it with GPS software and run windows programs (word, excel also ArcPad, a mapping program). I'm now thinking of putting a phone, browser and email onto that. Speed of connection isn't hugely critical. Looking at a map of AT&T coverage, that might be the carrier to go with for the area I'd be in.

But a likely major need is getting a connection. It's likely that for a lot of the remote area I'm in, I'd need an external antenna. So the phone/PDA would need a port for a Yagi or some sort of basic antenna (no external power to run a signal booster).

So, with that complicated list, I'd appreciate any ideas.

Many thanks!

The Glofiish 900s (DX, V or X) are pretty advanced WinMob 6.1 Pro handsets. Glofiish is not so well known or available in the US, though.

From what I have read it's all about the best processor in the cell phone itself. Also, check out phones that have windows opera running on their phones, the speed of the processor and windows opera. Now that is if you plan to primarily use it for browsing the internet.

Blackberry Bold
Blackberry Storm

Samsung Saga
Samsung Omnia

and I am sure there are a few more with At& T and Sprint. I am going with Verizon due reception in my area. I am leaning with Blackberry Storm since most of the bugs have and are being worked out. I liked the browser and the speed of it when I was playing around with it at the dealer.

I wish you all the best since it is an investment and most of the time one is stuck with the phone for two years.

I have an unlocked G1 running on AT&T that I can sync with Outlook. Actually, Outlook syncs wih Google calendar, and Google calendar is available on the phone. I've entered meetings in Goog calendar on the phone, and once Goog syncs with my desktop it shows up in Outlook.

PDA with a high-speed connection combined with a zippy processor can keep workers productive when they're on the road.
There is no standard definition of the term "PDA smart phone" and what is smart for one consumer might be obsolete and outdated for another. There are, however, certain features that align with pda smart phones and those that are more associated with cell phones.
Features:
Operating System
Software
Web Access
QWERTY Keyboard

I went BB and haven't been sorry. Not the strongest for web browsing, especially video. Just text or reading articles is fine.

I'm hoping their next "great" model will be much more internet friendly.
