I just renewed my ATT/Cingular account and picked up the SonyEricsson W300i. So far, i like some things but am annoyed by others. First annoyance was to learn that ATT sent the phone w/o a USB cable so, i can't download any music. Now i need to go online and try to find the cable.
My question. does anyone know if i can download music using the bluetooth on this phone? I'm using a IBM thinkpad and i believe it has Bluetooth capability. (never used it). Maybe i don't need a USB cable?
Second queston. does anyone know of a way to configure this phone so that it has a large clock on the external display that can be lit. I found a screen saver clock that's larger but it's so dark you can't easily see it and once you push a button or open the phone, this disappears and is replaced by the VERY small clock that's lit up. I use my phone for wakeup alarm and it's a bit frustrating that i can't read the clock without putting on reading glasses.
lastly.any good websites that i should know about to learn tips, hacks, etc for this phone?
any help will be appreciated.

first off, getting this phone was best possible move. goto menu settings display and sleep mode clock. second, bluetooth isnt how u wanna transfer music. use usb. usb only. AT&T shouldve sent you a cord if u sit on the phone long enough and escalate enough youll get it. just say the right words. SE sends usb cords with that phone and every other cust who got one got a usb with it. youre next issue will be making mp3's into ringtunes. nokia dot com provides developer software for "businesses" haha so register yourself as a business on nokia and download like their drm dm converter thingy. if this is nonsence to you then google it and you find out what u need to download it. my journey to making ringtunes for that phone took me through 10 complicated japanese sites that really wreaked havoc with my comp.
Have fun, the phone is infinately customizeable

Yes you can use bluetooth with no problem. I had this phone for a long time . you made a good choice. You can transfer anything via bluetooth. The only limitation you have is MP3s for ringtones need to be less than 600k in size, otherwise you won't be able to use them. Full length songs for listening have no limit. I would suggest, though, that if you want to put music on your phone to get a memory card and a card reader. You can transfer large files much quicker with a reader than via bluetooth.

unfortunately, that small sleep clock is all you can get. There's no way to change it.

There are many very good sony ericsson sites. I don't many offhand, all the SE links I have are for themes and what not. But if you google what you want you'll find some great resources. Good luck and have fun with your new phone!

The canadian version has extra lock downs put on by that carrier . you might need to debrand your phone to regain all of its features.

O.K. you guys, the easiest way to put your own ring tones on this phone is by using the sound recorder on your phone. (entertainment-record sound) then go to settings-sounds&alerts-ringtone-and select the sound you've just recorded. That's pretty easy. Enjoy

thanks for all the help folks! I've ordered a 1GB memory stick and looking forward to putting some nice tunes on my phone. I still haven't found a USB cable. Spent two days and combined 3 hours on the phone (mostly on hold!) to complain to ATT that they should have sent a USB cord but . alas, to no avail! I checked the ATT stores around here and Radio shack.no luck. I guess i'll have to order one through one of the many sites found on the internet.
As for the clock. i'm really disappointed that i can't set it to show up nice and large, ie easy to see. The funny thing is this. If you leave the phone opened, after a short time it goes to sleep and the screen goes black. Then if you press one of the directional buttons on the main Navigation key, just for a fraction of a second you see the time in nice large white font on a black background! This is perfect. how do i get it to stay!?
The manual for this phone is horrible! the index doesn't even have the word Clock and there's no reference to this feature anywhere. I think i'll see if the SE website offers any help.
