Why doesn't my sidekick 2 sim card give me service on my sidekick 3?
First of all, I have an old sidekick 2 but decided to upgrade to the sidekick 3. So I bought a sidekick 3 off ebay and received it in the mail yesterday. I decided to use my sim card from my old sidekick 2 and use it for my sidekick 3. However, when my sidekick 3 loaded, I had no service whatsoever. I turned my sidekick 3 on/off multiple times but still the same problem. No service and there was always an X blinking on the top right hand corner of my screen near the date/time. Does anyone know what the problem is? I usually receive service around the area I am right now (inside my house) My sim card worked fine in my sidekick 2 (service and everything) but I don't get the same stuff happening in my sidekick 3 and it's really frustrating. I called T-Mobile and they found signal in my sidekick 2 (when they told me to insert my sim card in there) but then when they told me to transfer the sim card into my sidekick 3, they didn't find signal. Maybe I need to buy a new sim card? (note: my sim card from my sidekick 2 is pretty old) They told me maybe I should buy a new sim card and see if that fixes the problem? What else should I do? Anyone else experience this problem? HELP!

Did you get to the activation screen when you used the sidekick 3. My thoughts are that it is still locked to its previous owner. When it is powered on press menu, settings, and then system info and see if you have a phone number and username.

yes, i had an activation screen. i actually called t-mobile and they transfered my account from my sdkick 2 to my sdkick 3 and now it has my user name and phone number. but the problem is the service on the sim card on my sdkick 3. it works fine on sdkick 2, but the service goes out in my sdkick 3.

That's not a sim card issue. What version is the radio on your phone? Its in jump menu and then network settings.

The radio version is not the latest version, probably need the latest OTA too. Your device isn't in airplane mode is it?

The sidekick can not be unlocked. A number of the ones one ebay are not unlocked. If you search around on here, you will find people complaining about that. Secondly, the phone will work as soon as your sim is in IF it is unlocked. Texting is another thing since your going to need a custom service center number. tmobile isn't going to help you with any of this. Its almost worth switching carriers, just so the phone works properly.
