Ok, I have music on it, managed to get the original Batman and Silence of the Lambs (both full length movies) on my phone. I get how to do everything.except the bluetooth. I paired it with a headset, and that works fine. but how do I get the phone to search for other bluetooth devices? I can use the other device to find my phone, but I want to just do a general search. And once I am connected, how do I send messages to other devices thru the bluetooth?

To search for other devices you need to browse to the file you want to send, press menu then copy or send then search for devices that way.
You can't send messages via bluetooth
Also many CDMA providers remove the ability to send / receive files via bluetooth

That works for contacts, is there a way to send/receive pictures? On the flip side of this, can you recomend a decent bluetooth USB adapter for my computer

You normally do as I described - if you can't then its probably because sprint have removed the feature
