What do you want to do with the connection? Are you trying to move music, pictures, etc. to and from a card? If so the easiest way is to use a card reader. If you are wanting to connect via Bluetooth, Bitpim http://www.bitpim.org/ has a profile listed for the 8600 - that is worth a try.
I'm a long-time Mac user (and VZW customer) and had success w/card readers the best. Bitpim works great for my 8500 but so far the two new releases of Bitpim are not working with my new 8550, which other than that problem I love.
I, too, am looking for other LG/Mac successful options with VZW as my son, who is very hard on phones, is looking for an upgrade. I've been researching the 8700 but don't know if it's Mac compatible - anyone?
Also, the 8700 requires removal of the back cover to access the memory card, another potential weakness for someone who's hard on phones.
I think he'd kill a non-clamshell phone, so I'm advising him against an 8550 unless there are no other options. I don't like the newer Samsungs or Motorolas, for a number of reasons.

Thanks babblebabe for your reply. I haven't tried to use the bluetooth with bitpim. I will try that way. If not I will sucome to using a friends PC.
Thanks and good luck with the new phones.

Babblebabe,
Just wanted to let you know that I just got the VX8700 last night (apparently the 8600 is no longer in production) and it's a great phone AND Mac OSX compatible via BitPim or the Bluetooth system. After Mac syncs up with it via bluetooth you have to click on the Bluetooth icon and select Browse Device. You can then drop mp3's into the MySounds folder. Then you go into Sounds in the Get it Now menu and select the sound you want, send it to yourself as a multimedia message and save it as a ringtone. It's an extra step, but it saves you having to use BitPim if it's slow.
Plus, I'm hard on phones and the 8700 is METAL. No breaking this one.
