Can anyone provide a surefire way to get custom ringtones onto an 8350? I've been all over the net and cannot find a good description. So far I have tried these (all unsuccessful):
1. e-mail to xxxxxxxxxx AT vtext dot com - message arrives but no way to save or open attachment.
2. e-mail to xxxxxxxxxx AT vzwpix dot com - message bounced back.
3. Bluetooth browse - no "ringer" folder seen and tones on phone not present under any folder.
4. SD card - created "ringer" folder and placed an mp3 clip in it on PC but does not show up in "My Ringtones." (I was able to successfully transfer and play mp3s put into "My Music" - but they do not appear as ringtone choices).
I am thinking about getting the USB cable and using bitpim.but before spending the extra $$ am wondering if anyone has done this successfully yet?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Scott

I have gotten a bunch of ringtones on my 8350 by emailing them to (mynumber)@vzwpix
Some things you might make sure are:
That the mp3 isn't too big. i've had success all the way up to 255k. Sometimes it bounces back but just brute force it. Best of luck.

Scott, because your heart is pure, here is my method to insert ringtones into the vx-8350. Format memory card in phone. Insert card into adapter in usb in computer. On the computer Copy short 30 second MP3s into "my sounds". Put memory card back into phone. Go to "my sounds". Pick sound. With "options" SEND to your own phone number. This will be a pix message. When it arrives, save as a ringtone. heh heh heh

I have the same phone, and I'm going to try that. Before I do, does it cost you anything to send the ringtone to yourself?
Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who posted here with the suggestions. After applying what I read here and in some other threads here is what worked for me:
With my sd card in my phone I formated it then placed it in an adapter I have- you can find these on the internet under $20.
I made a copy of my mp3 ringtone and then renamed it as a .mid
I moved the copy ****.mid to the sd card into the my sounds folder.
I placed the sd card in the phone.
When I went to the folder under memory- and make sure you have switched your memory to the card- I then selected move the file to the phone memory.
Once that was done I went to create a new picture message. In the contacts I put my cell number and then I went down a little further to the sounds section. Here I browsed to the sound folder under my phone memory.
I then sent the message.
Once received I was give the option to save as a ringtone.
I really hope I didn't leave a step out. My hubby was really happy I got a really cool ringtone on his phone for him
btw- I tried sending to myself through verizon's site, and tried just putting it on there as a mp3 but nothing else worked.
I hope this works for someone and saves them some time.

I too had the same problem with bitpim telling me access was blocked for my LG VX 8350. It's very strange, when i transfer a ringtone i get that message, if i do ot again right after the first try it goes through, i have added ring tones with no problem, using the most current BitPim (1.0.3.2007 beta). The phone i configured in BitPim is VX-8550. It works, not sure how, i am using Windows XP, and standard bluetooth. keep trying to transfer and it works eventually.

Just got my phone today, ordered 1GB microSD card ($15) and holster ($4.5) on eBay - retailer wanted $30 for a 512Kb card and $20 for a holster! Anyway, I ran across this forum trying to figure out what all I can do with my phone once the card gets here.
I would like clarification from SABBAH and Nette_9 who got this to work. If I understand them correctly, the solution involves sending and receiving a picture message. So this will cost 50 cents per ringtone, unless your calling plan includes some kind of picture messaging bundle. True?

Thanks to all for the advice, being a mobile novice. I had a MP3 of something I recorded that I wanted as my ring tone. Following a combined bit of advice it actually was rather simple though I would not have tried without all your advice
On my computer I changed the file extension as suggested to .mid
I emailed it to my tendigitphone# @ vzwpix dot com as an attachment
recieved it as a picture message
Opened up the picture message and under options and saved it as a ringtone.
It was almost to easy
Thank you all for your help
Verizon could have cared less
