Can't connect RAZR to Motorola Phone Tools without charging

Hi this is my first post so please allow for any mistakes or typo`s.
My problem is i cannot connect my Motorola V3 to my computer without the phone wanting to charge the battery.
I have installed/uninstalled Motorola phone tools on to the computer on a number of occasions, but to no avail.
As soon as the phone is connected the charging starts.
When i have installed MPT on the computer and then at the beginning asked it to find the phone, after connecting up once again to the computer the charging starts again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

What he said, plus you can't stop the battery from charging and so what if it does? When it's fully charged, it will charge no more. Are you trying to use MPT on a laptop running on its own battery? Probably not a good idea.

I don`t want to charge the phone using the computer, i am quite happy to let the phone charger do that .
What i want is when i plug the mini usb in to the phone that i can go on to Motorola phone tools and take the pictures from my phone onto the computer at the moment when i connect it to the usb port on the phone the battery merely starts recharging.
