Hi.
I have a big problem. Last month I want to cancel my contract and I checked the refund policy of at&t just to make sure that I have one month or not. I cancelled my account 2 days before the end of one month. So they said that your deposit will be send to your postbox by check and no early termination fee will be charged. When I opened my mailbox I see a heavy bill which is like 300$. So I'm shocked. Do you have any suggestions. Thanks for your helps.

if i understand right, you cancelled 2 days before the end of your contract?
if so, call customer care and ask to reverse the ETF as it was only a couple days. most reps are reasonable and will take it off.

yea two days before. but when i called customer service and said i want to cancel my contract nobody told me that i will be charged an early cancellation fee. I went to at&t store today they remembered me and they called customer service. They thought that I was right but after they made the phone conversation they said that the bill is %100 correct. The bill is 290$ (175$ early termination fee + 123$ usage). I wanted to cancel my account and called the customer service within 30 days and they asked me if I want to change my number as a prepaid service. Actually I don't care losing my number but when they said this I didn't reject that offer so I continued using my number as a prepaid. So why is the early termination fee? Actually I cancelled my contract. Everything is too complicated and the only thing that I know is this is against their return policy. (my mother language is not english so sorry about the mistakes)

well seeing how you throwing a hisy fit you get the corperate answer
YOU signed a LEGAL BINDING CONTRACT stating you would retain your service for X amount of time failure to do so would cause you to be billed any and all usage and a contract termination fee, are you telling me if you move out of an apartment 2 days early your not breaking your lease?

Heh, I just moved out of my house a month before the lease was up. Its cheaper just to pay the months rent than to tell them Im actually moved out, cause they'll charge me 3 months rent for moving out before the lease is up.
Im having a bit of confusion though. Did you purchase a phone and then decide within your 30 days to cancel, or was it 2 years and decided to cancel 2 days before contract was up? Also, during your original 2 years had you upgraded and extended your contract in any way, causing it to not actually be only 2 days before it was up?

i have had a couple cancellation fees in my life, and i don't remember any of them charging tax on the fee, just the service. i just recently had a phone cancelled, and got my bill with a large amount of taxes and charges applied to the fee. Funnt they don't give the national discount i get on that fee either. Has anyone else had these huge taxes applied to the fee? The rep was pretty adament is was $175 flat, total, when I asked what the cancellation fee was.

You're only breaking your lease if you don't pay the last months rent. Many people move out before the lease expires. As long as you pay through the last month, how is that early termination?
