thanks for your reply.
it just am a bit ticked it didnt say it wouldnt work with the older at&t cards.it dodnt say anything except at&t. my card says at&t so I thought it would work
ANd I am not migrating over. We have had our plan for about 4-5 years.no way would we get the same deal now.It would be double our cost to migrate to a company we had to start with? I dont accept I have to give up my plan to keep up with thier stock exchanges.
For 1000 bucks I just think it could have said.hey.this only works if you have one of the "new att" cards.is all.
so there is no unlocking it myself then?
Not fair.

oh btw.
I also purchased a razr3 full price about 5 months ago that was branded at&t and it worked with no issues at all.
Why is it ok but not the new razr?
I was also told it was because the sim is 32 and not 64.which is bull because then no unlocked razr2 would work with 32k sim.but I know if the phone was unlocked it would work with my current 32k sim because I know other people who have done so.
I get they want to migrate me but can they blatenly just lie to me?

The new AT&T is NOT the company you had to start with. Cingular bought the former AT&T Wireless out. Eventually, SBC bought out what was left of the former AT&T. At that point, AT&T was gone - out of business. HOWEVER - SBC (parent company of Cingular) now owns the AT&T brand. The only reason they are now using the AT&T brand is because it is more 'globaly' recognized. Cingular and SBC are only recognized regionally - for example, SBC only provided telephone service in 13 out of the 50 states whereas AT&T was a name that most people had heard of - all over the country and the world. Rest assured, this is not the company you had to start with - again - they were taken over. The only thing that is the same is the name. The rest is all Cingular. I know it is frustrating - but that's life in the business world!
Now. to be fair, I am (and have always been) an orange customer so the buyout didn't affect my rate plans - but I do hate the thought that I am now an AT&T customer EVEN THOUGH I know it is not really the AT&T that I so hated in the past. That being said, I think that Cingular / The New AT&T has been more than fair in letting you keep your rate plan all this time. They could have easily forced you to migrate right away to their new technology / rate plans - just like other companies have done. In the interest of customer satisfaction, they have continued to support your old blue phones and the network they are on.
The catch here is that Motorola did not clarify between old and new AT&T - but why should they assume that you are still using a SIM from a company that is LONG GONE? Seriously - it's been years now. There is no benefit to them to make sure that the phone works with that outdated SIM card. Times change - and so must your SIM. You want the old SIM? Use an old phone. You want new? Then you gotta go new.
Honestly, if you factor in what you pay in full price phones - are you really saving that much money by not switching rate plans? Again, the buyout did not affect my rate plans so I didn't deal with this, but it was my understanding that they were offering pretty good plans to compare to what you had before. Who knows? With mobile to mobile and nights and weekends - maybe you can migrate and still get a rate plan that fits your needs. Then you wouldn't have to buy full price phones anymore. $1,000? I cringe when my upgrade costs me $100!
