I realize this isn't a big deal, but I'm wondering why my phone still shows Cingular as the operator name, instead of AT&T. I am using a Cingular SIM card (got it just before the merger.). My phone is from a totally different carrier (O2 mobile), so I know it isn't affecting the name.

I don't want to make a fuss with AT&T about it and its not really work any great effort to change. Would be nice to have the right name on the phone, but if that means spending $25 for a new SIM, I'm not there.

Any thoughts?

Respectfully,
Jacob M.

(Yes, I know the subject is messed up - I couldn't figure out how to prevent the board from changing "AT&T" to "AT&a" - oh well)

then if its no big deal suck it up and ignore it,
it obvioulsy is a deal or you wouldt be posting it,

what will it make you sleep better at night if it shows att on the screen ,

will the att l alpha tag give a warm and fuzzy feeling in side?

if it means that much to you just log into your account suspend it, restore it and it should then show att

lol. it's probably in phone's firmware or sim card. suspending has nothing to do with it

Russ,

I am a regular poster here and I try to make a it point to be polite in my postings - which is why I acknowledge that this question might be wasting time better spent with more urgent questions.

I am sorry that this thread caught you off-guard, though I appreciate the advice. I'll ask AT&T about the solution you mention.

Respectfully,
Jacob M.

Actually it can be be phone related. For example Motorola phones you can choose PLMN_table from phone or sim via SEEM edit. Thus on Motorolas you can edit the table to allow custom text display

Hell, you may not want the new alpha tags. There's been cases of poor service for some customers with the new AT&T tag. I was one of them.

Thanks for the responses guys. I went ahead and e-mailed AT&T and was told that the alpha tag/operator name change would be complete mid-December. Perhaps if it hasn't changed then, I'll contact them again about the suspend/re-activate suggestion BigRuss suggested.

Respectfully,
Jacob M.
