OK So my dad, my brother and I are on a family plan together. We are able to get an upgrade in February.
My question is: If my dad upgrades the account, can he switch to an individual plan and drop mine and my brother's lines? Or do we have to wait till our contract ends in May?

he can make his plan a individual yes , but if he cancels your lines while they are under contract there will be the contact term fee's per line, but he can just put his on its own plan and leave yalls on the family talk plan

The way that contract and upgrades work, is that each line is completely seperate. He could go and get his new phone in February, however if your two lines are still under contract at that time, then they're still under contract. You'll have to wait until the contract end date to cancel them without any termination fees. Whether or not he signs a new contract on his line or extends his contract in any way is completely unrelated to the contracts on the other lines on the account.
