iphone froze on me sent it back to apple and they refused to repair saying there was water damage. phone was never dropped in water or had water spilled on it. anyone else with this problem? some of these forums talk about high humidity damaging cell phones. if that is true they need to put disclaimers on the iphone "only use in desert"

Body sweat can be an issue as well, depending on where on your person you keep the phone. I had this issue with a Razr. It quit working and the little telltale white dot had turned red and I had NO idea how or when it could have happened. When the phone was returned unrepaired because of water damage, I disseected it all the way and I could see where moisture had indeed gotten inside. At the time, it was summer and I was keeping the phone in my front pocket. Bad move.
If they saw water damage, then it came from somewhere, without your knowledge or otherwise. Something happened. The phone makers have much better things to do thatn to piss off customers with false claims of water damage.
Sorry, wish there was better news for you.

there is a thing called implied warranty of merchantibilty, which basically says a product should be free of defects for its intended use. if the iphone is suffering water damage from ordinary and expected use then it sounds like it has a design defect. the only time i had a phone suffer water damage was when my wife washed it with my jeans. i don't know why anyone would simply accept the manufacturers statement when they know the phone was not subjected to anything but ordinary use. maybe the iphone needs a warning label about being hyper sensitive to moisture from any source and even humidity can break it.

I'm sorry that you didn't hear what you wanted. Keeo your unrepaired phone and be pissed off, I don't care. And I'm almost 50 years old, I know all about "implied warranty of merchantibility". It has one big problem.it depends on who's doing the implying, doesn't it? I'm in the pro audfio business and I do everything from desk work to loading and unloading semis full of sound and lighting gear at the shop and on a show and I bang gear around between bands and set changes at warp speeds. And I do this all over the country. Indoors and out, rain or shine. The iPhone has several issues, but durability ain't one of them.
Good luck on the next go-around.

You wont believe what I went through. Most of all, the outcome of it all.
YOU GOT TO ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU HAVE WATER DAMAGE. IT WORKED FOR ME. READ MY EXPERIENCE.
I must have done the dumbest thing out of all those who've had accidentals w/ their iphones in water. I put my iphone in the laundry's washing machine. I swear I wanted to break the damn glass, while it tumbled and the suds filled the machine. That had to be the longest painful mins. (20-30) But I knew I couldnt resort to attempting to turn it on.
My bro once dropped his Nokia into a pond. He opened it and left it drying for days until he put it back together and it worked.
I knew I had to wait days until my attempt. I looked into opening it up but it looked too complicated. So during the past heatwave I left it in front of my A/C so that it could dry off completely. Of course I took out the sim card to let it dry too and have more entries open to have it dry off best.
Every day= Morning b4 work, Afternoon and Bedtime I would look at it in despair and suck out all the possible water or humidity I could only think of what was still in there. Trying to suck out through all its openings. As I tasted its detergent filled self, hey it smelled cleaned too. lol Wasn't funny at the time.
Finally after a week, I turned it on. Nothing! I charged it. Ok it's going. ITS WORKING. Checked all it functions. Headphones, Speakers, Made Calls, Vibration Alerts, E-mail, Text the entire alphabet to make sure all letters worked, check the web, snapped pics. EVERYTHING WORKS! I was truly awwed, dumbfounded. In the clouds.
Im Telling You its like nothing happend to it. Im on my second day w/ it since I turned it on and I was worried about the battery life but no, Works fine Too. Battery life is the same as b4.
The Screen was a bit darker and looked like it had a blotch stain of water at the middle background but I could deal w/ it not horribly noticeable either. And now the blotch is even getting smaller. I really think even the screen is going back to what it once looked like just maybe grads darker than b4.

My son and I went hunting on Saturday morning around 6:15am and left his iPhone in the van. It rained bad got VERY foggy fast and was about 40 degrees that morning. When we came back to the van around 10 his phone would not stay on. It kept saying that there was a temperature issue and it turned off. It was like this until last night then all of the sudden it turned back on. Now the screen looks like it has water spots behind it. We took it to the iPhone store earlier tonight and they said my son must have dropped it in water or something and they would not fix or replace it. Does anyone know how to go about starting a class action lawsuit against this crappy company for their crappy product?

Have no idea about that, but I know if a phone is really water damaged, it is useless.

i dropped my iphone into a toilet and as soon as it dropped i picked it straight out and it went crazy and then switched off. Later that night i turned it on again and some things worked some things didn't, so today when i turned it on (incident happened last night) everything worked EXCEPT for the home button (the main button at the bottom of the phone). what do i do to fix that? it is my pride and joy so any suggestions will be appreciated :]

The same exact thing happened with my iPhone, starting yesterday, so I took it in to the Apple store today. At first, they said that they would be swapping it for a new iPhone, & it would be about 15 minutes before the new phone was ready for me. About five minutes later, they came back to me & said that my warranty didn't cover the phone since there was water damage. They went on to tell me that my only option was to pay for a replacement which would be $599. no discounts apply. Although I insisted that water damage was impossible, they shined a light inside to show me the red area which tells the "genius" there has been water damage to the phone. I am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that this iPhone has never been submersed in water. In fact, I would go out on a limb & say that it hasn't even been rained on since I've always kept an InvisaShield on it & kept it in a case. Right now, I'm exploring options for replacing or fixing the iPhone, but I am very frustrated & very unhappy with Apple's customer service on this matter.
