I want to get a phone from Verizon and its a contract phone. Can I ask them if they can change it into a prepaid phone instead of having it in contract? Thanks!

Sadly you cannot get out of your contact by changing to prepay. You will incur an early termination fee.
However, if you complete the contract, you can then switch to prepay on that phone.
