Thanks so much. I depend on my ringtones to decide if I should answer when I'm busy with patients. I have been trying to figure this out since I bought my new phone last week!

You CAN assign a ringtone to a particular person. You CAN'T assign a ringtone to a particular person's text. All text messages come in the same. This was a feature on my VX9800 and I miss it very much, but, alas, the good folks at LG did not see it as important enough to include in the Voyager.

i used bitpim and audacity and it doesn work. When i try to send the data bitpim said the phone blocked this. so, help please.
I tried krayons way, but it didn't work. Initially it worked, but just today it stopped working. Vcast won't let me send the file to the phone, and my old data was lost. please help.

Audacity is great for ripping a mp3 to a ringtone size and bitpim is easy to get it on your phone. I also had the problem of being locked so it wouldnt allow the ringtones on, but then I found out that my phone had locked itself from not being used so i hit the lock button near the volume keys and tried to send ringtones to the phone and it worked.
Noted that it turned off my phone and restarted on its own, But the files did stay.

You guys rock! Been looking to do this for a while and searching came upon this thread. BITPIM does work! I never heard of it before today but now I am a happy man. By the way I just convert my mp3 to wave files and use windows sound recorder to shorten to the proper length. I am on Vista and for the record the phone does shut off and restart when bitpim downloads but theres the tones when she boots back up!

for anyone who wants a quick way.
once you have the mp3 formatted the way you want it.
sent it using an email client to
*yournumber*@vzwpix dot com
it will play the sound, and from there you hit "options" and then "save as ringtone"
simple as that folks!

There are a lot of different ways you guys posted on how to make your music your ringtones, but I have a few questions.
I simply have the USB cable to connect my phone to the computer. Which way is the easiest to make my music into ringtones out of all the ways you guys posted? I use Windows Xp, is there a certain program I can use for free to edit my music? Do I need to install V Cast?
Sorry for the noobness. I'm not computer to cell phone friendly and I'm sick of the ugly default ringtones!

The solution that you are looking for is very easily done. There is a program out in the WWW called ToneThis. Download this program and them set up your device. Once you have set up the device browse your computer for music files. You will want to make sure that you use the standard quality pick the part of the track that you want to use for the ringtone. By defaut if you use the arrow keys (left and right) it will start the selection process from the beginning of the track. However, you can click anywere within the track then using the arrow keys to the desired length. Using the standard quality I was able to select 1 min of the track. Once you have slected your track you will want to hit the send to phone button in the upper left. This will send a text message to your phone where you will be able to then save the file as a ringtone. Once the file has been saved it will ask you if you would like tyo assign it to a contact.
Have fun!

to add the ringtones you have to remove your memory card and save it to the internal memory.
