Assign personal ringtones to contacts on Sony Ericsson W580i

I have a Sony Ericsson W580i. I need help to the following:
How do I assign personal ringtons to contacts?
I have downloaded some songs to my phone in .mp3 format. When I try to use these songs for ringtons, the message pop up "cannot use this file".
Can anyone help please. Thank you

its possible the file size is too large to use as a ringtone im not 100% sure but i think most phone require under 200KB for a rt but dont quote me on that

I copied some ringtons from my Motorola to the Sony Ericsson, still do not work. It works with the Motorola phone.

AT&T puts a size limit (<300K) and a time limit (<1 minute) on their phones now.
To assign a contact, find the contact in your address book, >more>edit contact>press left 2 times>add pictures or ringtones.

Looks like it will work. I will try it when I create more ringtones.
