We have 4 phones on our family plan. I'm satisfied with the service and the plan. Our new every 2 comes up in January and to keep costs low I always take advantage of their buy 1 get up to 3 free deals. I don't mind forking out up to $100 on the primary phone to get the other 3 free.
Does anybody know when during the month verizon cycles their phone deals? Is there a specific time of the year verizon has had better deals than others? Do the online renewals offer better value than going directly to the verizon store? Are there any other tips to keeping my cost low when renewing my 2 year contract? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The only thing to look for in regard to your personal plan is to see if you are eligible for any renewals (for a promotional offer), since the contract extension wouldn't change your ability to get an upgrade. Otherwise the trends I notice are that the discounts shift from manufacturer to manufacturer every month or two. And the release of new devices will make older devices price slash usually (example, the VX9900 dropped in price after the VX10k release). Online benefits are the rebates are instant, not mail-in. Sometimes there is an extra promotion online that will get you a few bucks off a phone.

yea definitely look at the online deals. there are alot of deals to be had. for example, you can get free shipping and activation on online purchases if you do it before the 17th of this month. the phone i was looking at is $150 cheaper online just to name one. i dont know if they do better deals at different times but they do always have a christmas deal.

The last time I purchased phones I found out Circuit City Verizon kiosks had different incentives and prices than the Verizon stores had. You might get a better deal if you shop around at a few different places (independents, Cirtcuit City, Wal Mart, etc.) to see if there is a better deal out there.
Also, you might want to consider NOT getting new phones if they are not absolutely needed. You can buy phones used (eBay) and activate them and not have to worry about contracts any longer.

We are new Verizon members because of my great discount through my employer.
The Verizon Store at Minnesota's Mall of America (less than 1 mile from where I work) was busy and wanted to charge me $20 for each phone (3 lines LG VX8350).
Verizon kiosk at Circuit City (on my way home) was not busy, gave me the phones I wanted for free, transferred numbers from 2 carriers, and copied my contacts and files.
It really pays to shop around.
