Here it is everyone. If your Rumor is a Sprint phone then ringtones are saved as QCP files. There is ringtone software available at Target for 9.99 in the computer games/cheap software section. Now, for my problem. I need the drivers for the Rumor's data transfer cable. My wife bought it at Best Buy for 17.99 but it came with no software. HELP PLEASE!

You can get the USB cable on ebay for around $5-$6 with shipping--not bad
If you have Sprint as your carrier, you can go to this site (you'll have to edit the address, it's not allowing me to put the actual format) musicmanager.sprint. and download the music manager software. it allows you to transfer the music over to your phone from your computer
According to the Sprint software, you have to change your USB setting on the phone to be phone/modem instead of mass storage unit. To do this, go to tools, then USB mode, then phone/modem.
I haven't tested the above, as I just bought my phone yesterday so I haven't gotten a USB cable for it yet but this is what I have read to do.
I haven't found anything yet on how to get custom ringtones on the Rumor yet, but when i do, I'll post how
Hope this helps! |
I dont recommend doing this, connecting your phone as a modem to your computer is going to cost you a heck of a lot of money. The lowest plan for using your phone as a modem is 39.99 a month and if you dont have the plan you will be charged a whole lot more than 39.99.
Also if you download any songs to your phone through text messaging links or Sprint Digital lounge you better make sure you have a Data (Vision or Power Vision) Plan first. Otherwise your bill will be outrageous. It will cap off at 75.00 charge for data usage without Vision or Power Vision Plan, but who the heck wants to pay that on top of their regular bill? Not I !
Vision or Power Vision (depending on your phone type) is 15.00 per month.
Or try the Simply Everything Plan 99.99 a month - Includes Unlim Sprint Premier TV & Radio , Unlim Txt, Unlim Pic/Video Mail, Unlimited Data Usage, Unlim Navigation, Unlim Email, Unlim Talk Time, Roaming & Long Distance is included with the plan also.

I'm sorry, I should have been clearer on what I meant
The music manager software I mentioned is downloaded to your computer and then the usb cable is connected to your phone and music is transfered that way.
Switching the phone to phone/modem setting is just what the software says when you launch it. I don't think it means to actually USE it as a modem.
Sorry about the confusion, I would never suggest using the data or other with out an unlimited plan! Just to costly that way!

Has anyone figured out how to put sound files onto the Micro SD card and use them as a ring tone? Also does anyone know what the Assigned Media in the ringtone menu is?

You can thank me later.
1st you have to download and install QCP Converter from Cnet Downloads.
dubbleU dubbleU dubbleU.download period see oh em
Guess im not allowed to post these web sites?
Search for QCP converter, At the present time the latest version of this is 8.05.
This software is free for up to 30 conversions ($14.99 should you choose to buy it) and you can even edit your mp3 to start and stop wherever you want using the Portion button. I suggest you shorten the mp3 length to 30 to 40 sec to make it more phone friendly. Convert your edited mp3 to a QCP file by clicking the convert button. Allow QCP Converter to keep its default output settings which is (my music/converted music). I had problems when I tried to personalize the output.
2nd goto dubbleU dubbleU dubbleU.funformobile period see oh em. On the left side of the funformobile home page, under the Free Uploader column, click on Upload Ringtone.
Enter your cell phone info and select your converted QCP file from (my music/converted music) folder. Then click Upload. You will receive a text message with a web link from funformobile.
From your phone, while looking at the text, press the Option button and select Go. Agree to download and Viola. Funformoblie is a free web site. I have used this web site many times and never received any junk text message or telemarketers calls. Have fun.

I have called Lg and asked what format the ringtones were supposed to be in for them to work on my daughters rumor phone and they told me they didnt know that they just make the phones and sprint sends them the software to load onto it,I also called sprint and they told me to contact the lg people for any problems with the phone. When i first got this phone from sprint(approx, march 2008)i didnt have any probs hooking it to my pc to alter settings and whatnot(actually got it to work fine thru the cables i have for the usb function)Uploaded some pics and music to the phone perfectly(B4 ACTIVATION WITH SPRINT!)after i got my phone activated thru sprint via phone call to their activation department it wouldnt connect to my pc at all(it connects and charges thru the usb cables, and when i go into usb mode to the mass storage option,it tells me to connect the usb cable that it is CURRENTLY connected to and charging from)I called sprint back and told them i couldnt get it to connect to my pc and they told me that it isnt supposed to.Well to make a long story short i finally got hold of a friend of mine that i found was working for sprint and he informed me that sprint blocks the ports that the phone uses to connect to the pc upon activation to keep people from changing anything in the phones so we will have to buy the customizations from them(I currently have an attorney looking into them selling items and advertising those items to do things that they block during activation)
I also have a mogul and they advertise it to have sprint music and sprint tv(which of course is blocked from sprint-htc has a upgrade that makes sprint music work-but of course sprint has the channels list blocked so it blocked the channels from coming thru to the phone).
But because Sprint is a jerk about ringtones, I couldn’t figure out how to put custom ringtones on my daughters rumor phone. Some websites suggest that you record it using the memo recorder on the phone, but it sounds awful! But because I am amazing, I figured it out! The ringtones sound perfect, clear, loud, and always work.
The trick to this was figuring out the file type. The preloaded ringtones are in a .3g2 format, which is a video file format. Weird, huh? But transferring it to that file type wasn’t enough. I’ve provided highly illegal directions and a “what you’ll need” list.
What you’ll need:
-1 micro SD card & (usually) provided reader for your computer.
Most laptops and some desktops have an SD reader built right in.
-A 100×100 pixel image. Plain black is fine. This is create-able in MS paint. (The image is necessary because this is, of course, a video file, and without a picture the phone will not see it as a video file.)
-Windows Movie Maker (Found at C:\Program Files\Movie Maker)
-Freez 3GP Video Converter (hxxp_//w_w_w_smallvideosoft.c.o.m/3gp-converter)
-And of course, the song you want as a ringtone! (in .mp3 format)
Directions:
Select a song
Open “Windows Movie Maker” (C:\Program Files\Movie Maker)
Import the song into WMM (tasks > import audio or music)
Drag the song to the Audio / Music timeline and cut down to appropriate part and time (no more than 30 seconds)
Upload a picture to cover the 30 seconds (the plain image!) and expand it to cover the entire song.
Once you’re satisfied, click “file > save movie file > save it to your desktop”
Upload the saved WMV file to Freez 3GP Video Converter
Alter to these specs:
Video Settings
Video Code: MPEG4
Resolution:176×144
Width: 176
Height: 220
Video Quality: 8-Medium
Zoom Mode: Letterbox
File format: 3GPP2
Audio Settings
Audio Code: AAC-LC
Audio Bitrate: 48kBPS
Audio Frequency: 22050 Hz
Channels: Mono
Click Convert
Transfer file to your memory card
Assign: On your phone menu, go to settings and tools > settings > sounds > ringer type > voice calls > caller id (or no caller id, whichever you prefer) > my albums > memory card > choose your file > assign.
And you’re done! I hope this worked for you.
