I have no difficulty connecting my LG RUMOR (LX260) to my computer via the USB cable (not easy to find, by the way)
My computer recognizes it as nothing more than a mass storage device and files can be dragged and dropped on the microSD card installed in the phone.
I notice than when I drop mp3 files in the folder entitled "md" (which I assume stood for media) that they properly appear, and are playable, in the phone's media player.
If I drop mid files into that same folder, they also appear and can be played.
HOWEVER! If I try to make one of those mid's a ringtone, it doesn't seem to be possible.
Any idea how to get a ringtone off your computer, drop onto your phone's microSD card, and then be able to access and assign as it ringtone?
Thanks!

I searched for "LG Rumor" on eBay and found tons of accessories for this phone. Believe it or not, I got a Rumor-compatible USB cord plus a car charger (brand new) for only $1 + shipping ($4.50). Both worked perfectly with the Rumor. It even came with a CD that had tons of ringtones on it.
Unfortunately, there is very little documentation on how to use the USB with the phone. I discovered that a PC recognizes the phone the same as it does a flash drive. No software or installation is required. You can drag and drop mp3's into a folder on your SD card called "md" (which I think is short for "media") The songs then appear when you select "Media Player" on your phone.
In case you were wondering, it does not recognize mp4's (videos) on the Rumor.
Although I have been able to upload mid's files to the media folder, I have not fiqured out a way to navigate to those files for the purpose of making them a ringtone. And, like I said, there is no documentation on this.
Oddly, I wrote to LG product support reqarding the USB cable (before I found it on eBay), and they don't even have one. How dumb is that?
But they're out there if you look. I recommend eBay.

Hi all,
I am wondering what software you use to load the drivers to enable your pc to recognize the rumor. I tried BITPM and the LG Suite and it doesn't recognize my rumor. I have the usb cable.
HELP.dying to change some things.just can't get the PC to find my phone.
You guys need two things. one pick up the correct drivers for your phones. google it. two, get bitpim. google that also.

I found everything i needed at LG's site, lgcommunity . com. They have a link to the page where you can download bitpim and they also have all their phones' drivers posted in their file library.
I know bitpim has some sprint phones that are compatible with bitpim, but im not sure if the rumor is one of them. Has anyone been successful in getting their phone detected in bitpim:?:
As for adding ringtones via microSD card, thats not possible until you can move the songs from the card or your puter to your phone's memory. (thats where bitpim would come in)

I am going to address a few things in this post:
You can get the USB cable on ebay for around $5-$6 with shipping--not bad
If you have Sprint as your carrier, you can go to this site (you'll have to edit the address, it's not allowing me to put the actual format) musicmanager.sprint. and download the music manager software. it allows you to transfer the music over to your phone from your computer
According to the Sprint software, you have to change your USB setting on the phone to be phone/modem instead of mass storage unit. To do this, go to tools, then USB mode, then phone/modem.
I haven't tested the above, as I just bought my phone yesterday so I haven't gotten a USB cable for it yet but this is what I have read to do.
I haven't found anything yet on how to get custom ringtones on the Rumor yet, but when i do, I'll post how
