Did you stick a sim card from a ptt phone into a non-ptt phone?

press *#06# this will dispay the serial number of your phone. write it down. call 611 and ensure its updated.

I am having the same problem with a "new" phone that I activated with my ATT/Cingular account. I put in my old sim card and the message comes up as a text within 1 or 2 minutes of turning the phone on. It only happens after turning the phone on. I have done a master reset and called 611 and had them update the phone with their latest software and the problem still persists. Any other ideas?

I had the same problem on my Motorola phone that was originally designed for T-Mobile. It texts to "453" after power up.
The problem seems to have been the instant messaging, "Power-on Login" "feature" -- which fires even if IM is not setup!
The exact details may vary with phone model but you need to go to the IM settings, then "Offline Settings" and turn "Power-on Login" and "Auto-Login" off. This is true even though you may not have an IM account setup at all.
