Hi, to make this simple, you can buy parts for the sidekick 3, just not the main board (whic pretty much is the phone anyway). I just bought a new screen (waiting for it in the mail) for like $40.
Your problem is most likely the flex cable or the backlight itself, although this can still be a problem with the phone, but I really don't think that is comon unless you really abused the phone.
Sikekick 3s are easy to fix expect to take the lcd screen apart (I have takn mine fully apart already), so if you are going try to fix the screen buy a new one, don't try to take the lcd apart.
Of course, changing the screen may not work, and that is the chance you take unless you have a way of testing it first before buying a new one.

It was my kids phone and im sure it got beat around. I replaced all the out side parts and it looks new again but now the screen light went out. I hate to buy a new one if thats not the fix. I see them on ebay and it is so easy to fix if you get it in 1 peace like you said. So if anyone is sure that it will light back up with a new lcd please let me know. I just dont want to take the chance. Thanks guys

The best way to tell is to take a look at the board that the screen conects to, any cracks and such, anything that looks wrong with it. It would be rare to have a problem with it unless there is some visual evidence I think, but still always a chance unless you can get a screen to test it with first before buying
