Hey-
I went into buy a cellphone for my sister today using my number's upgrade becuase her number is not eligible until May. However the sales person told me that if I bought a new phone using my number her SIM would not work in the phone because they have started "tracking serial numbers." Is this true, and if so does anyone know how to get around it?
Thanks
David

Very hard and potentially illegal to do so.

false! go in a different store and just don't say thats what you're really doing. saves you a headache and a bunch of confusion.

Weird. All the years I've been using phones with SIM cards, no one has ever expressed any interest whatsoever in which SIM card I use in which phone. Until, of course, the iPhone came along. Grrr.

A bunch of bunk: that sales person is trying to intimidate you. After all, it will be your phone, who cares how you use it (or give it away)? Not to mention the fact that it is legally your phone after purchase....
"tracking serial numbers" - who tries to sell that kind of line? Utterly ridiculous.

(Now if your sister doesn't use AT&T, you'll have to get the phone unlocked first before it will work with a non-AT&T SIM card - but thats a different matter entirely)
