However, when i put my 02 simcard in the new handset, it displays

how do i go about gettin the unlock code for this?
iv been to t-mobile and they'v refused to do it as i havent been with them long enough.

you won't be able to unlock this with a simple unlock code, moreover t-mobile won't do it because they want you to buy their phones.
here's what you can do - patch unlock it, either youserlf or through a store.
go to a store - probably like $20? iono, i've never done this.
doing it yourself - go to se-nse.net and search for the patch unlock, and follow the instructions and you should be good. i recommend using xs++ since it's a lot safer than the alternatives.
remember though - there are risks either way you go.

Hi
We offer remote unlocking for the K850i W910i W960i etc ie unlocking is done over the net.
You can visit Totalgsm , google to get the link.
Kind Regards

^ yay paying for the unlock -_-"
just do it yourself using xs++ [give that you back up the GDFS it'll be almost impossible to kill your phone]
but i would recomend the store over a remote unlock. if you mess up using something over the internet, you hvae to pay to get another credit to get it fixed. whereas with the store you can tell the guy right there that he messed it up and he'd be more obliged to do it at no additional charge.
