I have had motorola phone tools for about a year. I have had a razor and a motorola v235. Both phones with cingular/att. I am now with verizon, I have a razor with them. It will NOT let me transfer my own pics or my own ringtones to the phone. The error get is that the phone does not recognize the file. Is there any way I can make the verizon phone recognize this? It is VERY frustrating! any help please.

I recently addressed this issue on another thread. I'll re-post it for you here:
Starting from scratch with your new v3m out of the box, you will need:
(1) The latest handset drivers for your phone which you can get by Google-searching the following search terms: motorola handset usb drivers. (Sorry. I can't post the link. This forum won't let me.)
FYI, these drivers work with VISTA!
(2) Motorola Software Update which you can get by Google-searching Motorola Software Update. It's the first hit for me.
When you get to the correct page on this website you will need to select your carrier and your phone. I selected Verizon and V3c (even though I have a V3m phone).
(3) P2kCommander:
Google search this. It's the first hit. On the site, just click on the "anchor" on the ship to download the zip file.
This is a standalone file. You don't need to install it.
(4) A USB cable to connect your V3m to your computer.

Okay, here are the steps. Bear in mind, I am running Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit).
(3) Download P2kCommander and extract the files in the zip archive to a folder on your machine. I just extracted them to a folder on my desktop.
(4) Run Motorola Software Update (MSU).
(5) Power on your phone and connect it to a HIGH SPEED USB port on your computer. IMPORTANT: Do not connect your phone to your computer through a USB Hub. It has to be direct! Also, if you connect your phone to an older low speed USB port, your computer may not recognize your phone.
At this point MSU will detect your phone after a few seconds (you'll hear your phone bleeping) if you've installed the drivers correctly. When you see the "MEID Number" appear in the MSU program window, you're golden. Nine times out of ten, if you experience problems, it is because the drivers are all f-d up. See "Troubleshooting" below for suggestions on how to correct this problem.
(6) Once MSU has detected your phone, minimize (DO NOT CLOSE) MSU.
(7) Launch P2kCommander. It will ask you if you want to upgrade. I just click "No," but one of these days I probably will upgrade.
(8.) On either the left pane or right pane drop-down menu (doesn't matter which one), select "P2k Mobile Phone." If all goes well, you'll connect to your phone and be in the root directory of your phone.
(9) Go into the root directory (named "a" on my phone) and select both MyToneDB.db and TmpTneDB.db. (FYI, for novices, after you've clicked on and selected a file, you can hold down the "Ctrl" key to select a SECOND file with your left mouse button.)
(10) In the opposite pane, use the drop-down menu to browse to a location on your local machine that you prefer and click on the "Copy" button in P2kCommander to move the two files you selected over to your machine.
(11) After you have copied those two files, DELETE THEM FROM YOUR PHONE by right-clicking on each one in P2kCommander and choosing "delete." I only copied them to my local machine first in order to back them up. But these are the files that prevent you from using your own custom ringtones even if you've copied them over to your phone.
(12) Now browse to the directory on your phone that contains your phone's ringtones. The full path from the root directory on my phone is: a/motorola/shared/ringtone.
(13) Now go back over to the pane for your local machine, select your custom-made or downloaded mp3 ringtones, and copy them over into your phone's ringtone directory using the "Copy" button in P2kCommander.
DONE!
(14) Close P2kCommander, close MSU, unplug your phone, and power-off and restart your phone. You can now SET your custom ringtones. If you didn't delete the two files I mentioned above, you'd be able to see your custom ringtones, but not SET them as the default or for particular people in your contacts list. (I hate Verizon.)
IMPORTANT: You need to delete the two files I mention above EVERY TIME YOU UPLOAD NEW RINGTONES THAT YOU'VE MADE. This is because your phone regenerates the two damn files every time you start your phone.
If you're looking for a program to help you make ringtones, I suggest Audacity. Google-search Audacity. It is the first hit. Best of all, it's free! Customarily, ringtones are about 30 seconds long. You can use Audacity to make 30-second clips of your favorite songs and export them as mp3s. You can also fade them in or fade them out, and even add other effects.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
If you're having trouble connecting to your phone using MSU, you probably f-d up the driver installation. To fix this, go into your Control Panel and remove any programs having to do with Motorola driver installations. HOWEVER, after uninstalling, you'll definitely need to go to the folder where the drivers are located and manually delete everything in the following directory because the uninstall in Control Panel doesn't do the job entirely:
Just delete everything in that folder and start over with the driver installation. That worked for me.

Also, you can forget getting your new RAZR to work with Motorola Phone Tools, at least as far as transferring ringtones is concerned.
I had to hack into my old RAZR to get ringtones on there using MPT.
I just got a new RAZR last month b/c I broke the last one, and I couldn't use my old method, hence this new one.
Verizon is a bunch of Nazi's about ringtones. They will stop at nothing to try to prevent us from using our own. Hell, for a buck a piece, I guess I can see why. Greed.

Yeah, just watch the driver issue (addressed at the bottom of my long post). If those aren't installed correctly, you'll develop a massive headache - nothing will work.

Your fix allowed me to transfer pictures to my KRZR K1m, but MPT still won't. Oh well, guess I'll use PKCommander each time.

No. This fix will not allow MPT to work properly. You'll need to SEEM-edit your phone to get that to work.
I have an earlier post that deals with this, but some things have changed since then. I'd give you the URL for my earlier post, but this forum won't let me because I don't have more than 10 posts yet. But if you search the mobiledia forums for stuff by me (jwc1926), you'll find it. It is entitled, "Put your own ringtones on ur V3m."
I recently replaced my RAZR, and the SEEM edits I mention in my earlier post have changed a bit. For my newer RAZR, I didn't have to make the SEEM edit I mention in Step 7a of my earlier post (i.e., file transfer was already enabled on my newer RAZR).
However, you do have to make the SEEM edit mentioned in step 7b of my earlier post, but on my newer RAZR I had to vary it a bit. Specifically, the "offsets" were different.
If you follow everything in my earlier post, and if you have a RAZR V3m like I do, you need to tweak the right offsets to change your V3m into V3cM (V3mM might work to; you need that extra capital "M" in there for sure).
This is actually a helluva lot easier than it sounds. Between my earlier post and my most recent post here, when you go in and SEEM edit your phone (assuming that it is a RAZR V3m), you'll get the hang of things real quick. Just be sure to back things up. Don't be shy. You won't "f" anything up by accident unless you click "Save to phone."
Also, just keep in mind that if you SEEM edit your phone or otherwise try to circumvent things like I'm suggesting in my posts, you void all warranties with Verizon.
Once you've successfully SEEM-edited your phone to "change" it into a V3cM, you'll see the "Multimedia Studio" icon appear in MPT.
In fact, I SEEM-edited my new RAZR and use MPT for everything BUT ringtones. I can't use MPT for that anymore. Verizon has put additional security measures in place.
Then again, if you're just interested in getting images off of your phone (without using the "handsome" MPT interface), the easiest thing to do would be to follow my most recent post (above). P2kCommander is not as "pretty" as MPT, but it allows you to "explore" the files stored on your phone and transfer things back and forth.
All of this may sound complex, but once you get P2kCommander up and running, it's just like using Windows Explorer.
But I hear you. I still like the MPT interface, and I still use it for some things (e.g., backing up my contacts).
I've picked up so many tips and tricks from reading these posts, so let me know if you're having problems.

GREAT! You should be able to upload your own ringtones now too (i.e., provided that you delete those two files I mention in my post).
Okay, as far as MPT goes, what I think you'll want to do is SEEM-edit your phone and identify it as a K1mM instead of a K1m. For some reason, it's that extra capital "M" on the end that appears to do the trick.
I just replied to your earlier post and pointed to an earlier post of mine where I discuss how to SEEM edit your phone.
If you sucessfully do this, given that you've already installed MPT, I can envision that you might need to create a new profile in MPT because MPT will either "think" (or you'll need to tell it) that you have, for all intents and purposes, a different phone, you know?
Then again, you may not want to go through all of this trouble if you've got the ability to do what you want to do.
But if you're crazy like me and insist on having total command over your phone, I can tell you what I know if you run into problems. Most of this would just involve reconfiguring the settings in MPT. This is fairly easy to do. The big hassle if you've never done it before is the SEEM editing. It's worked flawlessly for me, but I know others have run into troubles. Then again, most of that seems to have resulted from badly installed drivers.
