Hi everyone. My phone was stolen. I have Verizon and have spoken with their representatives several times. They seem to be allusive to this question and just want to sell me an over-priced phone.

My question is: Can I buy a Verizon phone from Ebay and have my contract transfered to it? I have a year left in my contract. I saw where you guys said that you could do this using an old phone of your own. I didn't keep any of my old phones. So again, could I do the same thing with a strangers phone who used Verizon? Thank you very much for any help in the matter.

You may use another VZW phone on your line, just acquire the MEID or ESN of the phone and contact VZW and the insurance company to confirm whether the device is locked for some reason. Assuming the device wasn't stolen or required by a warehouse or still active, then you would be able to purchase it from somebody and activate it on your line. You can make the device change online yourself.

Device changes online can sometimes not work. I would just call say I want to use this phone, it is Verizon Branded.can you activate it for me?

They will ask you to turn off your old phone but I am guessing you have had it deactivated. Then they will ask for you to take the battery out and fine the ESN or the MEID. They will input this into their system.check if it is clean and then they will have you power on the device. They will ask you to dial "*228" and press 1 to program the phone.

Once the phone is programmed they will have you dial a test call and then they will attempt to call your phone and if it all goes through you have an activated phone that should be working properly.

Hope this helps!
