I have had the Shine CU720 for several days and noticed today that the reception inside my home is reduced when I hold the phone. When the phone is lying on a table it usually gets 1-4 bars but they will drop off when I hold the phone in any position. Outside the signal is stronger and the phone gets 5 bars easily and doesn't lose them when I hold the phone. I have been using Bluetooth inside to avoid holding the phone when talking but wonder if this might be a defective unit.

The metal casing is probably conducting the signal into my hand when I touch the case, but I have been using a Motorola Razr V3 for a couple of years and it's metal also. I haven't changed carriers (Cingular) so I'm familiar with the level I can expect. The Razr worked well with 1-3 bars inside the house (which has a lot of metal in the roof). I'm questioning the fact that the phone can show 4 bars when lying on a table and after picking the phone up the reception fairly quickly diminishes. And outside where the bars are 4-5 all the time, the same thing happens but not so much that I lose the signal completely. It seems that there's some kind of "grounding" problem perhaps. I was looking for a stylish phone with an mp3 player on the AT&T network. The Shine felt great when I handled it in a store. Any others you'd recommend?

just purchased lg shine, it has only 2 bars, when opening slider, drops to 1 bar and sometimes no bars. ATT says I am in good area for coverage. I always had at least 5 bar in house for over 8 years, now my razar and tried samsung slider, now the shine all phones are dropping calls. And has poor signal strength. I think it has to do with ATT new "network", all WAS great, I have many people complaining of dropped call and reception in our area. No help from ATT.

I have the same problem as you on my brand new Shine. Through testing, I've discovered several things (assuming your problems are the same as mine):
- The area that your hand must be covering to cause a drop in service is relatively small. Just about the bottom part of the phone that is uncovered even while the phone is slid shut, but on the back only.
- The only material that seems to cause this drop in service is. well me. my hand, arm, or leg causes this, but no other material I have discovered yet.
This makes me wonder if the problem could be solved by putting a thin layer of some insulator on the part of the phone affected, because I think these results indicate that its conduction related.
