ATT mobile broadband- Average Download speed of 600 kbps - 1.4 Mbps burst up to 3.6 Mbps on broadband connect Network
Average Upload speed of 500 - 800 Kbps on BroadbandConnect Network*
and this is directly from both companies websites
so how is sprint faster ? |
I Don't Know What ATT Is Smokin But Whoever put that on thier website is way wrong. i also post on another cell phone forum and 4 of us did real world tests of att, verizon, and sprint aircards. and we are in 4 different parts of the country, yet we yielded the same results. sprint came out on top, followed pretty close by verizon, and att in last. this was less than two months ago. fact is, att 3g coverage is moot, and while maybe in 5 percent of the market they are getting .6 higher speeds than sprint, this does not make then faster than sprint in the real world. and now wimax will be completely rolled out by the end of the year, boasting 4 to 6 megs and lte is at least 4 years away, and that's wishful thinking. |

I am pretty sure that Sprint's EVDO Rev A has "bursts" up to 3.1 Mbits/sec kind of close to AT&T's 3.6. I was trying all night to find it; to no luck, I'll keep looking though, even if I am mistaken, I'll post it. Seems that you are arguing that AT&T is faster when in reality it varies by region and the data posted (on their own websites; why would you trust that as facts? Marketing is your enemy.) is only used as a benchmark. I'd rather take someone's real world test than what is posted on the carriers website any day. Your not spouting documented proof, your spouting carrier specific biased field results, whereas the other poster with the real world results is closer to an independent study conducted "free of bias"; or at least you'd expected it that way.

You do know that current UMTS speeds can reach speeds up to 31 MBit/sec, right? The AVERAGE speed is 3.6 Mbit/sec, but here in OKC, I've gotten speeds of nearly 20 MBit/sec, and in NYC, it only goes higher. And your sprint propeganda belongs in the sprint forums, k?

So your telling me you tethered your phone to a computer and did a standard bandwidth test in all those areas? i know i have, with pc cards of course, and att was barely hitting 700k in new york city.

it's impossible to get those speeds. all our cards except for the GT Ultra top out 3.6 mbps. the ultra tops out at 7.2 mbps. att's network can only support up to 1.8 mbps speeds theoretically, and generally, you'll see speeds around half that with bursts over a megabit.
Att and verizon's speeds are approx the same.

Sprint Propaganda?!? Hopefully you were not referring to me, I have VZW, AT&T, and Sprint service, mostly due to my job, and I could careless who is on top; the overall value of AT&T is decent and it's my all around favorite carrier but the real world speeds cannot be denied and AT&T has a long way to go before catching up to the CDMA carriers as far as data network coverage; speeds will vary by region with the larger metro areas having similar speeds (but it's not uncommon for people to report better speeds with CDMA carriers) to the point that you might as well go with a carrier that has cheaper service and better CS, which is why AT&T is my favorite all around carrier even if the network is not as fast in many areas of the US.
As other posters have stated, the speeds you claim are impossible, my question is how are you getting those speeds? and what hardware are you using? As well as what test are you using to measure your claimed 20Mbps?

Not possible? Then how do you explain the fact that I can get that speed on my Blackjack? Hmmm? And the fact that those speeds are NOT LISTED is because they are NOT GUARENTEED. That is why. But yes, I have seen and have spoke to many people using laptop connect cards that can get upto 20 Mbit per second.

the way i explain the fact you're getting those speeds on your blackjack is that you don't understand what you're talking about. those speeds are not possible. the blackjack can only support up to 1.8 mbps and you'll never actually see 1.8 mbps.
