I have a SE w300i phone that I purchased several months ago from a prepaid company called XE Mobile. I used the phone for quite a while and was pleased with the service but alas, XE shut down. However, by the time I had found out, customer service was already closed permanently so I was unable to get the simlock removed.
I have been looking through these forums and others and from what I've seen, it seems like cable unlocking seems to be the way to go. The problem is that I have not been able to find a concise set of instructions on how to do this. From my reading I have learned that some sort of remote unlocking server software needs to be running on a PC and that a special "unlocking cable" must be used. Beyond that, I am clueless.
What is the difference between this "unlocking cable" and the data cable that came with the phone? What is this software that I am supposed to use? Does anyone know of a reliable place to purchase both? (I'm new to this and most of the sites I've seen don't seem reputable) And is there a decent guide on how to perform this procedure?

You don't need any special cable, just the cable that you got along with the phone is enough to unlock it.

Really? That's fantastic. But what about the software? What's the standard that everyone uses? I've seen a few sites that sell unlocking software but I have no idea if they're reputable or not.
