Sorry if this is a dumb question (its from a dumb person) but i did search on this but couldnt find anything. anywho.
Im thinking about buying a used motorola Q off ebay to replace my 3rd glichy lg 5200 because I am on a family share plan and dont get the upgrade every two years.
My question is, do i need a data plan for the motorola Q or can i just do the esn swap without changing my plan, because I tried with my friends old blackberry a little while back and they said I could not use it without an additional data plan.

Verizon and RIM, the Blackberry manufacturer, have made an agreement that all Blackberry products must be under a specific data plan. The Blackberry has it's own set of data plans.PDAs and Smartphones do not require data plans.you will need to call Customer Service to activate the phone. The rep will tell you he needs to put it under a data plan. Ask for the PAY-PER-GO MB PLAN which is free unless you use data.if you do not plan on using data ask the have data features blocked after the activation is complete.

Moto Q? Since when did it require RIM service? It's the same as a TREO. I was under the impression only BLACKBERRY devices required that service anyway. A couple of coworkers have Sprint. One has that new ACE and the other a "touch" (HTC I think) phone. They do not require special service. They both have that SERO plan which data comes with it (or at least internet access does). Maybe you got one of many morons at the help desk. Try calling again.
