While T-Mobile's network is pure 1900 MHz, their phones are capable of roaming on 1800 and 850 MHz GSM networks. In fact, right now, my phone is roaming on an 850 MHz Rogers Wireless connection in the middle of nowhere, Ontario, Canada.
If that's true that's a recent development. are you sure that's a t mobile phone and not an unlocked gsm phone?

I know they do a credit check, but I dont have credit history since I dont have a card. I have prepaid with T-mobile, and I want to change to a monthly plan. I'm 19 and I plan on paying for it in the store every month, because I dont have a checking account or credit card. Will I still be rejected or is there some way around this? Can I have a parent co-sign or something and use their credit history? How much would the deposit be if they didnt reject me? I refuse to stay with prepaid, I use my phone too much and its costing way more than a monthly plan would.

JackieGore, if you're still here, I am unsure as to whether or not T-Mobile still has the Smart Access Plan available. I was 19 when I got my account with T-Mobile and it has been bliss ever since. The initial plan was very positive. I did have a checking and savings account when i signed-up, so I recommend you get a checking account somewhere you feel comfortable before signing up with any carrier. That may better your odds in getting a plan AND it will be a good idea for life in general. Here were the features back when I first signed-up in February of 2006:

•Only a $35 activation fee
•NO deposit whatsoever
•Cost of phone, if applicable, activation fee, and possibly the first month's bill were due immediately.
•First 6 months of the Smart Access Plan with a restricted credit limit (not exceeding $200, I believe)
•Smart Access Plan was intended for no/bad credit consumers and it helped built credit
•After the initial 6 month period, status advances to a normal customer with a higher credit limit.

I paid less than $100 in total for the initial set-up and simply made monthly payments from then on out. I got a free phone, which was pretty nice, and I did it all via web, so there was no pressure or hasseling from "salespeople."

I can only speak from experience as I am definitely no tech guy as far as network capatibilies and such are concerned. I can tell you that my 2+ years with T-Mobile have been excellent. My plan, upgrades, coverage and service, and customer service have always been prime. I cannot say that all T-Mobile customers have had the same experience as I have, but please take my opinions as a big plus for this carrier.

As I mentioned earlier, T-Mobile may not have this plan available, and I am sure someone here can confirm or deny. Either way, educate yourself as to what T-Mobile can offer you by visiting a store, not a kiosk in the mall, or online. You always have the final say, so don't hesitate to discuss this person to person with a T-Mobile associate. you can even call for more info.

Hope I was of some help to you and others.

If you have no or bad credit history, T-Mobile does offer FlexPay. I believe most of their plans have the FlexPay option, including the MyFaves plans. You pay the monthly fee at the beginning of your billing cycle and you're all set for the month. There is nothing different about your phone or account except that you pay ahead of time. You can also have a FlexAccount, in which you can add money to your t-mobile account to buy ringtones, send text messages, or if you go over your minutes. You don't need to do so but I would, just in case you go over.

SmartAccess was tossed and replaced with Flexpay. Flexpay requires NO deposit or activation fee, and you can sign up for it with no contract if you wish. The difference is, Flexpay is a monthly prepaid service so you'd pay for the first month of service upfront, and any phone replacements (outside of warranty and insurance) are at full retail cost due to lack of commitment. This will resolve your issue of switching off the T-Mobile To Go to a monthly plan.

yes smart access is gone as well as deposits, when we run a credit check and its not enough for a regular contract, it would go either Flexpay annual or Flexpay monthly. one can get u a new phone the other one u gotta either provide ur own phone or pay for a phone at invoice price.

seeing as u already have a t-mobile prepaid and u say ur credit aint good u can use ur old t-mobile phone. but it never hurts to try just run ur credit.

other than that if u plan on keeping ur number its not possible if u get on flexpay. its wierd that we cant migrate prepaid to flexpay but we can with regular contracts. but thats how it is.

good luck

I Think running your credit for a cell phone should be illegal these days. sure i can see it's purpose back in the day when you had to pay a hundred bucks for a 200 min plan with no free stuff. but these days a mobile should be treated as a utility since everything is going wireless. fact is, in today's world you need to be able to communicate almost as much as you need power or heat.
