Why is it when you've been with a company for 6-7 years and you want to upgrade and pay for a newer phone, or you have increased your plan, that they don't want to work with you on this upgrade fee? Especially when you have 5 lines on the account. It seems that companies don't care if you go elsewhere. That's the feeing I get.

Actually This Is One Of The Reason's I Left ATT Many Years Ago. I Remember When ATT Used To Give You A Free Good Phone With A Two Year Contract. Over The Years They Just Became Less And Less Competitive. That's When I Switched To T Mobile, Because They Used The Same Technology. Big Mistake. Sure The Customer Service Was Great. But Man Coverage Sucked. Whenever I Went Into A Building No Signal. Got Out Of That And Headed To US Cellular. Coverage And CS Was Ok, But Thier Phones Were Yet To Be Desired. So I Switched Again To Sprint. Since Then There Hasn't Been One Area That I Haven't Been Able To Make A Call, Roaming Or Not. Fact Is I Don't Care If I Roam, because I Don't Get Charged For It. Now If We Compared Coverage Without Roaming, Actually Alltel Would Be The Clear Winner. They Have The Most Towers In The United States, Period. And noone can beat sprint retentions department. they've hooked me up with some serious discounts on phones.

iowa,
sounds like you've tested them all, I just recently ordered some more phones with AT&T, what a headache. I got to go to their Premier website for companies that have signed on for group discounts. The website is ridiculous, it would not let me add a new line of service even though it had a link to add a line. And it would not let me add a service to a phone that was allowed to add that feature.
After numerous attempts by CSR, I had to have a supervisor order them 1 by 1, could not order 3 phones on 1 bill. The only good news is that I was able to go with a 1 year contract, but even then, when my phones arrived I activated them and I asked them to check if these phones plus the new line was under a 1 year contract and they told me they were under a 2 year.
So round & round I go to get that fixed. So I'll put up with headaches for another year because coverage seems fair, will see after my contract expires.

Thanks for the info, SCTrojanfan

This is not true. It all depends on how much you spend, your tenure, features that you may have and how you pay your bill. 9 times out of 10, if you have a bill that's over $200, with more than 3 lines, and have several packages like text or internet or even Extended Nights and Weekends, then more likely your primary line will have the upgrade fee waived. So don't say the company won't work with you, because this is not true.

So, when does the company work with you? After numerous calls to speak to the person(s) who CAN"T waive these fees. You ALWAYS have to ask to speak to a supervisor who is supposed to have the authority to do it.
Then as you say, " it depends on how much you pay", so for the people who can't & won't pay for these outrageous packages prices, then you don't get any thing in return, how typical.
So I CAN say the company won't work with me because it is true.

how is that ANY diff from ANY other company not just cellphones , you go to a sotre and spend $300 a month they will treat you better than somone who spends $75 a month , you go to a car lot and spend $65K on a car they would be more opt to thro in a free windo tent or a towing hitch than if you buy a $12k car, with cable if you have the base cable package , and are late avery 3rd month you not going to get as many offers or breathing room than the peopl who have the full deal 2000 channels highspeed internet , and is on time 11 out of 12 months.

cell phone serice is NO DIFFERENT than anywhere else

why are you so angry? like seriously you must understand that we do work for a company your on here yelling at reps for not helping when most of the time thats all we want to do. until ppl start actin a fool. you probably dont get any help cause you automatically expect that your not going to get any help so it just throws your chances out the window. take a chill pill dude seriously

BigRUSS,

It's obvious that if you go buy a $10k Yugo and ask for a free GPS system your going to get laughed at. If you buy a cable service with these so called 2000 channels (by the way, there's not 2000 channels), have internet and phone service, they still don't treat you well. Who does the deals go to, to NEW CUSTOMERS, why do anything for the loyal customers? They already have your money.

So what I'm getting from your response is that, finally, you are admitting your getting bad customer service from these companies and you don't like it. It's about time you admit it.

when i had cable thru time warner and had the ful digital package roadrunner and phone , any time i call ed i was ALWAYS offere deals , money saving packages , what not when i called to cancel for Uvers , the offerd me 2 months free service to stay no strings attached as a valued customer.

But you are agreeing that ALL companies offer new customers the good deal, but apparently ATT and other cell service providors are some how diff ?

One Thing You Gotta Remember About Dealing With Sales Or CS Reps Is They Are People Too, With Real Feelings. Be Nice To Them And Usually They Will Be Nice To You. Now I Don't Know How ATT Works Now, But With Sprint And A Few Other Carriers I Know Of If Your A Loyal Customer With A Decent MRC You Should Try Going Through Retentions. It Is Thier Job To Keep You As A Customer Happy. But Don't Go At It Like You Deserve Anything, Just Be Calm, Nice, And Very Professional And You Likely Get The Results You Want. Good Luck.
