Hey all,

Just a thought, does anyone know anyone else who could possibly know someone else who might develop firmware for the E700?

Im asking, since there are a few things in the E700 (and I assume they have been carried over to the E715) that are a bit dum and annoying.

Some of the things that I have found to be anyoing to me:

-When writing an SMS and you accidently hit the Red button instead of the 3 which you intented to, the message that was being typed becomes erased. If you were righting a rather long sms, tough luck, you have to start typing it all over again.

-The last used SMS input mode (T9 , ABC, etc) is not automatically selected when you type a new SMS. I think its set to default to T9 all the time, which to some people may be frustrating since their language may not be supported on the phone making T9 a waste of time for them.

-The error message that pops up when a particular "folder" is empty. Eg. When you delete the last SMS in your inbox or when you delete the last photo or when you try to go into your inbox and there are no SMS's or (you get what I`m saying). I find this message annoying and the sound that comes with it. An idea would be to just go into the "folder" and display [Empty]

- The camera sound. One just has to ask why there is no silent option. This must be the biggest "overlook" that I have noticed. Although I have read that the camera sound can be replaced by changing the tone which involves changing the firmware. In my opinion there should be an option that comes standard on the phone.

- Lack of options for the external display. The changing colours on the clock may be annoying to some people. There should be an option here to change the colours or not, much like there is an option to slide the clock (useless). I also think there should be more service types, perhaps a type that would allow a custom image to be displayed much like the flashing dots. This would add some extra coolness factor and more customizablility to the phone.

- SMS outbox. There should be an option to disable the outbox. This feature can be very useful in keeping track of which SMSs have been sent but it can also quicky eat up precious memory space.

- No voice dialing. I was looking at some version of the firmware for the E700 and found some strings that resemble voice dialing. If the functions are in the firmware already, why is it not activated? Was the firmware carried over from some other phone that had some hardware for voice dialling? Does the voice dialing feature require special hardware?

-Voice memo. This isnt useful for me (maybe I just havent used it yet) but should be included as all the neccessary software code is already in the firmware (Voice in MMS)

These are just a few things that I have found in my E700. The firmware version that I am using is E7OXCWJ4.

Please do feel free to add any other things that you feel are missing to this post.

If anyone can pass this along to someone inside Samsung that can get things moving, it would great for everyone. Januka?

Just checking to see that the reply function works fine. Please add anything you think should be or not be in the E700 firmware.

Don was kind enough to put this thread on the front page. It is here so that it doesnt just fade as new post get made.

In my opinion, it is better to have a single thread with this stuff so that hopefully someone who can actually do something about the firmware found in Samsung E700 phones, can reference and get user feedback.

Dont you think?

Can someone in germany call optimay and ask them if they want to create a special firmware for the E700 because they created the E715's firmware and it looks much better than the one thats in the E700.
I tried mailing them but that didn't work.

A few things to the list that shouldn't be a problem adding to the firmware.

Assigning picture (taken by camera) to a persons profile
Assigning ringtone (donwloaded. Not standard) to a persons profile
The anoying sounds when the phone is running on low battery.

Question: Would it be hard to make the firmware so that you can assign a language to different profiles. I live in denmark and meet lot of exchange students that all speak english. I would like my phone to use the english dictionary every time I write a message to these people

I would like to see photo ID and maybe customisable mini pics for the outer screen.

Anyone who has seen the LG 7100 little car screensaver, I would like to see the option of something similar, whether it come as standard in the firmware, or is downloaded to the phone. A little more option then coloured dots and coloured time is needed, I feel icon_rolleyes.gif.
An analogue clock sounds good aswell, after seeing pics of the E715 I think it complements the phone well. I'd also like to see an option to keep the outside screen on permenant, though it may cause the phone to get through battery quicker?

Not being able to set downloaded sounds to groups and individuals is something that I think is a major overlook.

Must agree with everything said above...
One more thing: why there's no option for recording a new voice sound in Media Box, but only in MMS? It would be nice to be able to assign voice sound as a rigtone for a group on individual too...
Must also agree and point it out, that being unable to assign ringtones from "my sounds" to groups or individuals is a major disapointment to me... icon_sad.gif

I really hope thet new firmware will be made soon.
