Yesterday I ordered 2 T-Mobile Shadows for my wife and I. The CSR I spoke with talked me into buying the Shadows because he said that we could connect to the internet via the phones wi-fi feature anywhere wireless internet was available and we had the network key. He also told us that since we could connect via wi-fi we did not need to purchase a data plan. Well I got suspicious that to use the internet I might have to buy the data plan so I called T-Mobile today and they told me that I would have to buy the data plan to use the internet! I can't believe this guy lied to me! Does anyone know if I have to buy the data plan to use the wi-fi connection, or is it like the first guy told me and as long as I have the wireless network key I can use the internet? Please help! Thanks!

if you connect via wireless internet you do not need the data plan. I just got the shadow and can confirm this.

Why isn't this phone listed on the T-mobile website as a Hot Spot @ Home phone if it has wifi?

It does not have UMA, which is the protocol H@H uses.

I was planning on buying the sidekick LX (would of been my first sidekick) but then found that I need the sidekick data plan in order to use its feature. I cant really afford and additional 30 dollars a month, so now I'm looking at the T-Shadow.
Just to be clear; there is no need to purchase an additional plan right?

the sidekick data plan is 20/month if you have a voice plan.
the shadow will work without a days plan.
