That is where Alltel comes into play, being a largely rural provider. One Sprint retailer said that Sprint covers the cities while Alltel covers the cows. Maybe so, but where do you need your phone to work more, in the city, or in the country when it may be 5 miles between phones.

http://consumerist.com/380521/soldier-requires-local-media-to-get-his- money-back-from-sprint
| Quote: | While Jeff Cannizzaro was off fighting in Iraq, he was also fighting Sprint. Jeff suspended his phone while overseas, but left some money in the account. While he was away, Sprint kept deducting small amounts from his balance. His wife kept calling and writing emails, trying everything they could think of to get Sprint to stop deducting the money. Nothing worked.
When Jeff got back in September, he tried writing the CEO. That didn't work either. It took help from the local media to encourage Sprint to give Jeff his money back. |
| Quote: | Sprint wouldn't talk to KING 5 specifically about his case, but they did act fast.
"I got a call from someone from Sprint apologizing, saying it must have gotten lost in the shuffle and we're really sorry about the inconvenience and there will be a check in the mail overnight to you," Cannizzaro said.
Cannizzaro said Sprint owed him $48. In the end, Sprint sent him a check for $100.
"I'm very glad KING 5 is willing to help me out in this situation," he said.

See what I mean?
And the "Jessica" chick, got fired: http://consumerist.com/380257/sprints-nucking-futs-jessica-fired
So maybe Sprint did something right, for once.

And you know what it really doesn't matter. What matters is coverage you get with your plan minutes without extra charges. i dont care whether my phone displays T-Mobile or AT&T, as long as I can use it without extra charges, I'm happy with that.

Verizon best? Depends on where you live. Verizon's coverage in the state of Louisiana is one little dot. AT&T's coverage in the state of Louisiana is everything *but* one little dot.
Of the phone companies I've been with:
AT&T: Horrible customer service. Very high cost for EDGE and 3G support.
T-Mobile: Good customer service. EDGE network is built out pretty much everywhere, though much slower than 3G services such as EVDO. Alas, both at work and at home I can't get a signal with them, so had to cancel.
Verizon: Terrible restrictions on the phone-as-modem functionality. I travel and need PAM, so I can't use them.
Sprint: Horrible customer service. EVDO network fell apart for a while last year, but is back together again now and works quite fast compared to EDGE.
Sadly, those are the only four carriers offering PAM (Phone As Modem) in my area, which I need when I travel, which is often. Sigh. So I am on Sprint. So far, so good. We'll see what happens as they try to fix their issues.

PS - Tmobile is *not* buying Sprint. Sprint is a CDMA network. T is a GSM network. Completely different/incompatible technologies. After seeing the horrors of the Nextel buyout, nobody is going to try to do a mixed-mode network ever again, it simply doesn't work, though Alltel is doing their best.
