so, as my title suggests, maybe it's me, but it seems the internet and media fad is to rip sprint nextel corp apart. as of recent, i've watched engadget and the any genius report post false headline stories about sprint nextels upcoming launch of the samsung instinct. both websites berated sprint nextel for requiring a simply unlimited plan and did not hesitate to make comparisons with att and the iphone plan rates. only after a backlash of posts from commenters and others did they quietly acknowledge thier mistake and take down the posts. there was no apology or correction, simply a removal. the other day gizmodo has posted a letter to sprint nextel corp and intel complaining about the wimax delays which, as far as i an concerned, was overly harsh. and lacked any real understanding of the current playing field and was overtly bias towards the PAPER STANDARD that is LTE. maybe i an being hypersensitive, after all i am a long time sprint nextel customer and own stock in the company, but just hear me out. are there media outlets really that blind or are they making a conscious decision to ignore the facts and would rather take the easy way out by openly bashing everything the company pursues. as sprint customers we are all aware that sprint nextel corp was recently as a crossroads after use botched purchase of nextel and the horrid leadership by gary forsee and his minions, sprint was in a bad way. customers were leaving in droves, stock prices were plunging and nothing was being done. the company had two choices, continue on the same track or purge out some of the corporate infection. lucky for us, stock holders chose to oust forsee and bring in mr dan heese. i've already said it before on this forum but i'll say it again. i an wholly confident that dan heese will be the saving grace of sprint nextel corp. it's not going to be easy task for this man, nor will it be a quick one, but i am extremely confident that under his leadership the sky is the limit. since heese's arrival some months ago, there has already been a noticeable change in the company. sprint has put customer service to the top of the priority list and improvements are already noticeable through the introduction of emailing dan@Sprint.com, echat, and whatever they are doing at the call centers making a difference day in and day out. sprint has reaffirmed it's commitment to iden for at least a few more years. this will help drive ptt on the sprint pcs network. sprint has announced some exciting new handsets, including the instinct, new treo, new blackberry, and a line of qchat ptt capable phones. likewise, sprint has affirmed it's commitment to keeping it's pda and pocket pc users up to date with the latest software with announcemants that they will provide updates to all current windows mobile 6.0 devices, bringing then to windows mobile 6.1, something that is a major change for sprint. the biggest thing of all, in my opinion, is that sprint has projected the most contemporary and revolutionary picture of what the cell phone is. for sprint, the calling experience is only part of the picture, now you have data, video, text, music, web, gps, ptt, and the like. they have affirmed this by launching a new media campaign and the release of thier simply everything plans which by far, offer the biggest bang for your buck. under forsee, wimax was chosen as the 4g technology of choice. under his leadeship we have seen delay after delay after delay. once dan came aboard, if reaffirmed a commitment to wimax, got talks rolling with clearwire again, and secured at least 2 billion from intel for the network build out. not too shabby if you ask me. now i'm not aware of the particulars, but it is by no means an easy task to build out a national network. it is an expensive feat and requires a host of factors working flawlessly in tandem. currently sprint has wimax working in a handful of test cities and was originally supposed to launch this month in the first set of markets. sprint did announce a delay in the launch and targeted this summer. while this is unfortunate, it's really not all that bad. sprint will still see a 2 year market advantage over those who have chosen to go lte. likewise, would everyone like sprint to launch the network when performance may not be up to could be or bugs not fully ironed out? seems to me that it is a lose lose situation with many of the media tech outlets. do they not see the noteworthy progress that has been made by sprint nextel in the last few months alone? i feel that they have purposely chosen to ignore it because it is so much easier to sit back and bash away. clearly sprint is not out of the woods by a long shot but progress is being made rapidly. as i've said before sprint is not a one dimensional company, the wireless service being the tip of the iceberg. heese is addressing a whole array of problems and concerns from the top down. now i am not advocating we be soft on sprint. it's my opinion sprint wants to hear our gripes and concerns, and as sprint customers it is our right and duty to voice them maturely. but i an completely and utterly tired of the mindless and haphazard bashing that is going on. sorry if this sounded too much like a rant. thanks for reading

Sprint is going to be in line for a bashing for some time, it's not that long since they lost a net 700000 customers over the Christmas season, and their customer service still has a ways to go before it can be called good, there is a noticeable difference however, and it is a haphazard to slam them for some things.
Xohm, Sprint's brandname for it's WiMax technology did get pushed back till later this year, largely because of an unsecured partnership with Clearwire and Intel, but it is still set to launch well in advance of LTE. Initially Motorola backing LTE seemed to make it look like it would increase the speed in which it was rolled out. Verizon however stated it wouldn't roll out LTE until 2010, and At&t won't have it rolled out until 2012. That gives Sprint a 1-4 year headstart over the competition. Sprint is being extra careful with it's QChat phones, not giving them an overall release until they've been tested in smaller markets, this, while disappointing, is a good thing, and will reduce churn, and further bad will generated against Sprint. Now is the time for Sprint to implement new devices to show that they are still in the fight, and when it is a new technology roll it out slow enough that you know what to expect when it hits, so that it will be ready. This they seem to be doing. Buying shares in Sprint seem to be a good deal, they are low now, but if they turn it around it'll rebound, and if they are bought, it'll at least shoot the price up breifly.

Why do people hate sprint?
You means besides extending contracts without letting their customer's know?
Besides micro-managing their CSRs even on the potty breaks?
you means besides punishing their CSRs for not making proactive offers during every calls?

i dont really know why so many people bash sprint.
i mean cell phones and providers are all about personal experiences.
In 2006, when i first has sprint, i really disliked it. The CSR reps were horrible and the coverage wasnt great either.
then i had tmobile.
then i decided to go back to sprint becuase the plans were better for me and i'd save some money getting more out of it.
Now i love sprint. the customer service is alot better than it used to be and the coverage is great. my calls are clear no matter how many bars i have.
i personally have nothing against sprint anymore, for my experiences have been going well. but bad experiences = angry people, so they bash

I'm not knocking Sprint's cell phone service, except that former Nextel customers got royaly screwed during the buy out. I've known at least 50+ people who were Legacy Nextel who could not stand Sprint at all. I've read conflicting reports that up to 75% of all former Nextel customers left since Sprint bought out the company. Heck, no other cell phone company that is ALIVE has had this much trouble. They only lowered their plans cheaper than the others to get back the customers they lost. I expect Sprint to rank in the low spot for a long time too, ATT is getting better which is a good thing, and Tmobile is still #1 because they have the BEST OF THE BEST when it comes to customer service. But like I said, it all depends on who you get.

When last I checked, Sprint's PowerPack plans were remarkably similar in price to At&t and Verizon, so I wouldn't say they have cheaper plans.
Actually Alltel rates the top in customer service where they are available to sell phones according to many consumer guides. Nextel hasn't lost that many of it's customers since the Sprint takeover, but they have lost several.
Oh, and bds, no one covers close to the entire US without help from competitors. Sprint isn't the only one.
Manator, have you ever had a customer of your feel like they are getting screwed, enough to right an article somewhere about it? All companies sooner or later, no matter how good or bad will have customer who hates them, it just happens.
Now I am not a Sprint apologist, nor do I think they are the best thing, but iowa did bring up a point about incorrect articles that were ran that only got pulled, instead of a correction being posted on their site, which usually is customary when you goof on something like that.

Of course all companies are going to get bad press, but Sprint gets more because they do stuff really idiotic (more than other companies anyways). I've never blindly bashed sprint, everything is based in truth and experience.
The service I'd had goes US Cellular to Sprint to TMobile to ATT

Here's another little known fact. if sprint didn't buy nextel, nextel would have fell flat on it's face. thier network was at capacity and they didn't have the money to expand. if sprint didn't buy nextel someone else would have and they would have had the same problems sprint had. in my opinion they overcame it exceptionally well. most of the people who blindly bash sprint don't know anything about the business world and how it really works, yet they love to throw around words like churn and have no clue what it even means. most of the people who bash sprint are robots who can't think for themselves, and follow what everyone else says. fact is i've always liked sprint because of superior service, not because of customer service. usually companies who hide behind thier customer service means thier product is sub par. yes sprint has made mistakes, and they have corrected them. in my opinion att is much more of a robber baron company than sprint when it comes to busines practices. att has robbed it's customers all throughout history. and manator's opinion is completely moot because he is nothing but a loyal trained corporate robot for att. and manator, as many bad articles you find about sprint i can find the same amount about every other carrier. so digging up articles on google is moot. i can't wait til att gets tired of your union and rips it apart to save money due to a failing economy. and it will happen. call centers always get the axe first.

Is this person going to sit here and tell me that AT&T is good? HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
sorry i got a little carried away. but i really hope you are not serious. AT&T is possibly the worst service i have ever seen and heres why:
1) my friend has AT&T. he was inside my house with 4 out of 5 bars of signal. he went to make a call and COULD NOT DO IT. the call would not go through! i laughed at him for like a minute straight and said to myself "thats pathetic"
2) my grandma has the pantech from AT&T. in 1 spot in her house she goes from full service to no service. IN ONE SPOT?!?! how do you do that? and it didnt just happen once, it happens frequently. even my most fluctuating phones wouldnt even do that. so i guess its like "maybe i can make a call for a little while?" even then she'd be lucky.
3) i used to have cingular. this was like 3 years ago so im not gunna use this one to my greatest defense. my phone would lose service with 1,2 bars of coverage. some may be thinking "well thats normal. low signal. what do you expect?" i expect my phone to work whenever it has signal! idc if its 1 bar or full. it WILL work. my sprint phone proves to me that my standards are not ridiculous. making a call on 1 bar and 6 bars for me is all the same.
so in conclusion, i dont think AT&T is abs. horrible. BUT i dont think its great . or even good . either. from my personal experience, sprint is better.
