I just got a new v3a razr from alltel and i cannot use mp3 files as ringtones. I can transfer the files via bt from another phone or from my pc and the transfer fine. I can view them in the media gallery and even listen to the there but there is no option to apply as ringtone like there is in my older razr. Also these mp3's do not show up in the ringtone list to set them as ringtones that way. According to Alltel customer service they say they don't allow mp3's downloaded via bluetooth to be used as ringtones. Does anyone know a way that I can make this work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not Alltel. I have Alltel too. I had a black Razr V3a until last week; got a new one that is Gray with Celltop. I was having the same problem, so took it back to the store. Spoke to a guru there (he pulled up the article online)----it is Motorola. LG and Motorola have new software on the new phones blocking transfer of data. You must pay for ringtones downloaded directly from the Axcess shop. If someone sends you a ringtone or you download one from the net, you cannot apply it or set it as a ringtone. Motorola claims this helps to ensure you do not download corrupted files or viruses. I believe it is a money issue. But if you find a way arounf it, please let me know too.

Just recieved my first bluetooth phone, and was excited about finally swapping ringtones. My problems are the same as the first poster. Anyone figure a way around this yet? Can you use a voice recording or is that blocked also?

One of my current phones is the moto KRZR k1m. I have a drawer full of moto's & others. I had a razr before this one. I had the problem of getting the ringtones to where I could use them. & I also thought I was being blocked. Here is how I finally got to start using my ringtones not bought at Alltel.
When I loaded the ringtones on the phone I couldn't use them. Krzr has an mp3 player & it will do a search for all music. Two things here that might help you if not I'll pull a Razr from the drawer & charge it to see how I did it because I always use my own ringtones.
1. if your ph will do the search you have to specify which mp3's are ringtones. Once a song is classified as anything other than ringtone it won't work as a ringtone. So I put some of the music in the ringtone folder. But still couldn't use it until I went to contacts & pulled up a contact (my sister). I edited her contact info & assigned the ringtone to her name. I did this will all my family, friends, & work contacts. One at a time.
On this ph I couldn't get a ringtone of mine to be a standard ringtone that always come on. I have a memory card & when I put the music on it I had to create a ringtone folder separate from the music folder.
2.I know this sounds stupid but before I applied the ringtones one by one to each contact the option to apply any of my tones as a ringtone did not appear. Once I did that however now when I click options on my own tones it now shows the option "apply as ringtone." My music is on the card but my tones are in the media gallery. I think once I selected them that it put them in the gallery.
When I go to the media gallery ringtone folder & it shows all the moto tones my ringtones I added are mixed in. The very first line says "New Playlist." That wasn't there before either.
If anyone tries this let us know if it works for you. If not I'll backtrack to see how I did them on the razrs. Oh, plus I may have used the cable tho I'm pretty sure I put some on with bt.

Get the Motorola Update software and P2Kcommander. Run the Motorola update software, connect your phone via USB, run P2Kcommander and find the file named MyTones.db and delete it. Unplug your phone and reboot it. Once the phone reboots, it will creat the MyTones.db file and that file will include any MP3s you've added.

I have done that and the P2KCommander will not work. It's not recognizing my phone and when I change it to P2K Mobile Phone, it refreshes and goes back to D://. Any suggestions?
