To be honest, before Sprint let anyone go, they would have 'grandfathered' the ones who threatened to leave, and left the changes on the ones who did not. That is what they did the last time they made changes to their contract.

Not really, those that don't complain are seamlessly moved over to the new style, and those that do are grandfathered until their next contract. The ones that don't complain also don't get lawyers, they don't complain because that is not their nature. Or they just don't care, and if they don't care, why would they sue? By grandfathering the ones that do complain, they essentially wipe out any roadblocks to contract structure changes.

Check out these circumstances.
Sprint's stock prices are at a 52 week low of less then $10, the high being just under $24
The FCC is demanding that Sprint clear airwaves for it's use even though it doesn't yet have the airwaves ready for Sprint to take over. There was supposed to be an even trade, now the FCC wants there's now, but can't provide Sprint with the replacements. These airwaves happen to be what the IDen Nextel network runs on. Sprint has said that if they have to comply then their network will be crippled.
This is causing Sprint to look into selling Nextel. (This does not put a crimp into the QChat line because it doesn't run on Nextel's system, but it does force them to deploy it sooner or scrub the whole thing. Sprint was hoping to have the time to move Nextel's customers into the QChat lineup before it sold Nextel, but with the FCC ruling they may be forced to sell WAY too soon.)
Deutche Telecom is looking to increase it's wireless holdings internationally because it is losing a lot of money on it's wired business, and it's international wireless has just exceeded the half of it's income.
With Sprint stock at an all time low, with the possibility of Sprint selling Nextel, reducing it's cost further, they really are ripe for a purchase. If Sprint does find a buyer for Nextel, then it only makes it easier for someone else to purchase them. The Trade Commision may not allow the #3 and #4 companies to merge, but that does not mean that the #5 company in Alltel may not be looking to beef up it's coverage as well. The last figures I had on Alltel was they had 12million largely small market customers. The addition of Sprint would give them access to the large markets, and then everyone else really will have to be concerned with what Alltel is doing.

Yeah I Read that too, and it just seems everyone has got it out for sprint. as you may or may not know att has alot of the fcc and court systems in thier pockets. i wouldn't be suprised if att wasn't somehow behind this push on sprint. these kind of expectations in today's world are horrible. i think sprint will keep this tied up in appeals court and such to extend the deadline. i myself, and others are writing letters, emails, and flooding the fcc with phone calls. will it help? who knows. but government agencies should not be allowed to interfere with business.

Okay, the Federal Communications Commission told Sprint when they bought Nextel that they wanted Sprint to clear up certain frequencies, and in exchange would replace those frequences with other ones. Now the FCC wants Sprint to give up those frequencies, while the FCC is not ready with the replacements. And Sprint is right, if they have to give them up, it would cripple the already limping Nextel system.
iowa, I'm with you, I don't think government should interfere too much with business, however the FCC had been after Nextel for some time before the merge to clean up those frequencies as they were interfereing with certain emergency responders wireless networks. When Sprint purchased Nextel they only were allowed to do so if they agreed to comply, which they did. Sprint was certainly hoping to have the QChat system up and running before then so that they could keep the Nextel customers. Appeals could help give them the extra time that they need.

I Certainly hope so. it should postpone the deadline by at least a few months, which would be a huge advantage, even if they didn't win thier case. it's the fcc's fault in the first place for selling the frequencies so close to emergency responders, so why should sprint have to pay for thier stupidity. plus look at the number of business's and small goverment agencies that depend on nextel service. this rash move could cripple many business's in an already bad economy, plus the small town police forces that depend on nextel for communication.

Nextel works really awful in small towns, let's face it, the majority of Nextel service covers major cities and highways, and that's it. But still, in a few months we could see 15million Nextel users out on their ear.
