I am not all that savvy when it comes to cell phones but here is my issue, anyone that can help (and please, dumb down your responses so i can understand lol).?

Okay I have a Motorola Razr phone and a plan with AT&T that I just purchased a few months ago, which I of course dropped ina sink full of water with some mouthwash in there as well. after drying and cleaning its working again but the 6 button sticks like crazy and I can not take photos, or videos or use voice command. I was thinking of purchasing another cell phone on Ebay and just using my SIM card which is fine.

So my question is, WHAT type of cell phones am I able to do this with? Do they have to be from AT&T? Do they need a certain type of SIM card? Please do tell all, thank you!

They either need to be att branded, which i recommend, or an unlocked AMERICAN gsm phone.

Alright, so if I have an AT&T branded phone, can it be any kind? Or will the SIM card for the Razr not work in some AT&T phones?

Your AT&T SIM chip will work in ANY AT&T phone. It will also work in ANY unlocked phone. The fact that your SIM card was previously in a RAZR makes no difference.

Think of your SIM chip as a car radio. It will plug into ANY car that has the appropriate wiring. It doesn't matter if your previous car was a Mercedes or a Kia, as long as the next car has the necessary wiring in it!

Peace,
Jacob

I would recommend an At&t branded phone, because most of it's settings will not need to be changed, and all features should work fine. Other unlocked phones which will work, but may need to have certain settings changed to use certain features.

2 years ago I bought an unlocked Motorola PEBL to use on ATT (ATT never offered the PEBL). The PEBL was gray market (as are a lot of unlocked GSM phones sold online) for the UK market. If all you want to do is send and receive calls, just plug in the SIM and it should work.

But in order to access the full functionality of the phone you would have to manually change the settings or even flash the software. All the things that ATT sets for you on its own phones. e.g. voice activated dial, SMS txt message, software update, all I had to set up myself. All the information how to do all this can usually be found on online forums and I've had no problems setting up and using my phone. It's not hard to do for the moderately computer savvy, but a mistake may have the unfortunate result of bricking the phone, so care should be exercised.

Also, if the phone is not one offered by ATT and there is a problem with the phone, ATT tech support will have no clue.

I had no trouble switching a Cingular (ATT) SIM card from one Razr to another Razr that I bought used and unlocked. However, I needed to get from customer service at ATT a code number to enter in the used phone after I inserted the SIM card and before I could begin using it in the used phone.
