i haven't found a quick or successful way to convert mp3/wav to mmf files (or midi, for that matter). i've tried several shareware programs and found the result of the conversion sounds nothing similar the original. i even tried converting to wav, reduce the sound quality & cutting the song down before converting in psm player. very rarely works. if somebody can successfully make this work, i'd like to know.

There is a program for converting melodies (and mp3 music).
Coding Workshop Ringtone Converter
http://www.codingworkshop.com/
Originally developed as a Nokia to Motorola converter, hence the name 'Ringtone Converter', the software has been extensively developed from the early days and is now very much more with support for practically every mobile phone available today.
The original converter functionality has of course been retained, and improved. You can now use the converter to convert RTTTL (Ring Tone Text Transfer Language), MIDI, Nokia key press sequences, Motorola 'on screen' format and Nokia Composer ring tones so they work on your phone.
Mobile Music Polyphonic is a polyphonic ringtone composition and converting software. It can convert your favorite MP3 wave and midi music to mobile phone polyphonic ringtone. You can write your own music in Mobile Music Polyphonic and save to polyphonic ringtone format file. It can save your music into standard MIDI, SP midi and SMAF format (*.mmf) file. You can convert mid to mmf, mmf (based on midi) to mid, standard midi to sp midi, wave to mmf, mp3 to mmf, mp3 to midi, wave to midi and mp3 to wave file.
yamahs smaf tool didn't work for me at all - I mean the program installed etc., but it couldn't convert .wav or .mp3.
will try the other programs posted..

now I remember what was wrong. it would convert fine, but when I played the tune, the volume was zigzagging all over the place - it would be normal volume, then go straight to almost whisper, then shoot back up again.. totally useless!
btw 10300 views with 6 replies.. must be a record?

I think that you should try the Mobile Music Polyphonic 2.5 software to convert mp3 to smaf(mmf) ringtone. I've tried it and it has done wonders.
