I am a new customer for Nextel. I currently have the motorola i880. I just bought a different nextel phone on ebay that I think I will like better because it is more compact. I was told that I just put my SIM card in and I am set. Do I have to notify Nextel to activate the phone? Do they charge to change phones?

Thank you so much in advance!

Which one? To be honest, the i880 is one of the most compact Nextels. Tell me you did not purchase an i830 or i836, you will not be happy if you do. You shouldn't need to call Nextel, swapping the sims should work just fine, unless the model of the phone starts with "ic", in which case you got screwed raw. You would have to buy a new sim, and call Nextel to activate it, which would take a while, because the people on the Nextel side do not know much about activating Powersource/Hybrid phones.

Thanks for your reply! I just bought the i870 on ebay real cheap because of its harder shell and look. Do you think that is a bad idea to change to this phone? I can always resell it, so I am not worried about the money. I just likes the looks of it better. Do I just put the SIM in? Should i activite it online (I saw this was an option).

Thanks for all of your help!

I i870 is larger then the i880, camera is 1.3 instead of 2 megapixel, and it will be harder to load MP3's on, from what I've heard you'll have to turn the sampling rate way down, other then that you may not see much difference between them. Personally I liked the i880 better, but that is a personal preference. You will not need to go out of your way to activate it, simply replacing the sim card should be fine, unless you have insurance on the phone. If you have insurance or service on the phone you'll need to inform Sprint of the change.
