I don't want to pay the monthly fees for internet, all I am really looking for is to gain functionality with my outlook calendar.
Can I get a smart phone such as the Verizon SMT5800 and somehow sync it with my outlook calendar on my PC without having a data package or paying any data fees?

I'm looking for exactly the same thing and think that the Palm Centro is perfect. I don't have one yet, because I'm waiting for Verizon to get it. Though, my contract is up in July and may switch services just to get it. Sprint and ATT have it. It's not anywhere near as bulky as the Palm Treos!

There's rumors of Verizon getting it soon too.

Any idea on what the price range should be on the Centro?
I wish they had a nice compact size low price offering like the Blackberry Pearl but non Blackberry.

It's $170 or so right now if you're eligible for upgrade, but checking out info at other sites like phonearena.com shows rumours of the Palm 800w soon to be released as well, in case you're more windows oriented.
