Ok, so I have a Verizon Strawberry Chocolate, the first one, and I hate it. Well something fell on the screen and cracked it inside so the screen is all black and white and unreadable. I do not like this phone at all.
I signed my contract on July of 07, and I signed a 2 year contract. I talked to the insurance company and I have to pay 50 dollar to get a new chocolate through them, but I don't see why I would spend 50 dollars on a phone I hate.
I have a friend who got his contract the same time I did last July, and he was able to upgrade on July of this year. He actually already got the discounted upgrade a week ago.
I talked to a rep. a week ago and he told me I was eligibe for a discounted upgrade in July of this year. Just the past 2 days, I have talked to two reps and they said I am not eligible until March of next year. They cannot come up with a reason why the first one would have told me July. So now I am stuck with a phone that doesn't work.
Is it possible to upgrade for a discount before my 2 years upgrade or am I stuck with a phone that I cannot see the screen?

you can upgrade before you are elgible but you have to pay full retail price on the phone. i would suggest paying the 50 bucks on a phone you hate and wait until you can upgrade then get the phone you want at the discount price instead of the full outragous retail price. hope this helps

If you've had your phone for 12 months & pay $34.99 or greater for your plan (NOT a secondary line on a family share plan!) you may qualify for an 'early upgrade'. You're also likely eligable for the lost/stolen/damaged replacement policy in which you can get a phone at 1 year price. Call customer service and ask to speak with a supervisor, let them know you're interested in these programs, they will give you your best options.

If you have a more expensive monthly charge like $50 or more you can qualify for the upgrade after a year on your contract. Otherwise you'll have to receive a special offer from a supervisor/manager to get the upgrade, and that wouldn't happen too likely.

anybody know if this will work.
if you want to get a new phone for the upgrade price but don't yet qualify for an upgrade, you should simply open a new phone line on your account with the new device you want, then go into verizon a couple days later and have them switch the phone numbers between your original phone and the new one so that your original phone number is now on the new device. Then a couple more days later (but no more the 30 days from when you activated the new line) go into verizon again (perhaps a different location) and cancel the new line you had opened within the 30 day window.
wouldn't this work or no.?

It works, but if you don't return the new phone you will suffer the early termination fee.
