Hi all. I'm a newbie to the forum and searched around a bit before deciding to post my questions since I was reading mixed responses from this forum and others.
I'm currently with T-Mobile and have the $5.99 T-Mobile Internet plan with my unlocked SonyEricsson w610i, and I absolutely love it! The internet works great with the built-in wap browser, and I downloaded Opera Mini, Google maps, Gmail app. and they all work perfectly.
Only problem is that the T-mobile coverage near me is awful. I'm thinking of switching to AT&T which has much better coverage (I bought an ATT gophone sim card to carry around in a spare phone for a few weeks and I got much better coverage).
Before I switch though I have a few regarding ATT:
1. Is the $15 unlimited ATT MediaNet roughly the same as the $5.99 T-mo plan I have? Aside from being $9 more expensive?
1a. Will it give me the same ability to use Opera Mini, gmaps, gmail, etc.?
1b. If the $15 plan is unlimited, how does it differ from something like the $20 (soon to be $30) iphone plan?
I'm concerned b/c on the att website faq it says: Q. Can I download files from the internet to Media Net-enabled phones? A. No, not at this time
To me that didn't make sense but I asked in an ATT store and they agreed. They said I would need a $30 PDA or blackberry plan (were they just trying to upsell me?) to get 'real internet', and that the MediaNet was only to be used with the built-in medianet browser and that I couldn't download opera mini.
2. Does MediaNet work on the 3G network? I was hoping that it would, but again the FAQ says: Q. Can I use medianet outside of my local coverage area? A. You can currently use medianet service in the GPRS coverage area.
3. Will I have problems with my unlocked w610i? Or if i find the correct settings will it work ok? (I know it's not 3G so I may get a new phone if indeed medianet works on 3G, but I was reading that unlocked phones may or may not work.).
Thank you for all your help.

I am also very interested in these matters - but I don't know the answers as I will be testing this service in US in about 3 weeks.
By the way - where can i download google maps-application for my device? .as i have seen, google maps does not work in a useful way over opera mini 4.

1. what is included in the 5.99 Tmob plan?
1a. the opera should work fine
1b. Iphone plans acually are data and messaging bundles.all are unlimited data with varying amounts of messaging
2 medianet 3g is mainly device specific.first you need a UMTS (3g) device. then coverage. otherwise its EDGE coverage
3. the w610 I if settings are input correctly should work fine. if you are porting in take the free phone (just in case)

Thanks for the input.
1. The $5.99 plan includes unlimited internet (no messaging) and works with opera mini, gmail app, etc.pretty much works with anything as far as i can tell (it's almost too good to be true for $6 but so far i've had no problems it).
2. fair enough. I would definitely upgrade to a 3G phone if/when i make the switch since there appears to be good coverage in my area.
