Is there anything called excessive roaming for a service that claims to provide free roaming? I have been a customer of T-mobile for the past 4 years and I called for a service question only to be told by the customer service representative that T-mobile is planning to cancel my service due to excessive roaming. This was news to me because I have not received any notification from them. I asked whether a company can just terminate my service without informing me I about it the representative said that T-mobile can terminate the agreement with the client whenever they want. Whereas the customer cannot-- you have to pay them an early termination fee.
Meanwhile I used my current residential address to apply for the service so if they know where I'll be using the phone for the most time, I can't believe that years down the road, they turn around to tell me I've been roaming excessively.
I asked if they could allow my billing cycle to end so that I'll have ample time to get another service provider but they refused. Surprising that a company will treat a faithful customer this shabbily. This is the WORST customer service I have received in my life. Is there anyone out there who has gotten such mistreatment from T-mobile or can someone tell me when the issue of excessive roaming came into play?

There is a section of the contract that states t-mobile can cancel your service when you roam for mor than 50% of your minutes. they have been canceling lines little ny little over the last year.
Im sorry this is happening to you but it is something that must be done or t-mobile would have to raise everyone's rates in order to pay for the small amount of people who roam too much.

Wait -- are they just terminating your service or are they doing it with an early termination fee as well?

I have been living at the same address that I used to apply for the service so if T-mobile knows they don't have any service here, they could have told me. No one at T-mobile told me my principal area of service will be roaming, so how can they turn around after some years and come up with this excuse. Its not like I'm always traveling around the country.
They were smart to wait for the contract to end-- when they finished making their money off me.

They wouldn't have activated your phone if your billing address was in a roaming location. In their system you must have had some coverage at your house. And because of your money they most likely did not make any money off of you.

I used the same address I'm staying at to apply for the service so how come I was not told that I reside in an area that is not covered by their regular services. I am not just some angry person ranting about nothing, but I think that when businesses mistreat their clients, we need to talk about it. Granted, that was a decision they made later during the life of the contract, am I not entitled to some kind of correspondence informing me about their decisions? Do they have to wait for me to call about my service before informing me?
Meanwhile, they have never ever missed the opportunity of getting my bills to me-- shouldn't this action raise a red flag?
I'm open to learning more about the issue but your responses seems like someone who has some kind of interest in the image of T-mobile rather than the terrible customer service meted out to me.

You roam too much. Is it fair to pass that cost off to every other customer just so you can keep your service? Sorry but something changed at some point and there is a clause in the contract for this.

This has happened to me as well. I was cancelled for excessive roaming. I have owned my home the entire time I have been with tmobile 1 and 1/2 years.
I paid an activation fee which was supposed to last for my entire two year contract. I upgraded my phone twice, once to get a razr and again because the razr2 came out. I also convinced my son and wife to switch to tmobile last january costing me just over $300.
Last Saturday I had to pay almost $600.00 to set up my wife, son and self with Alltel because tmobile decided to cancel. How is that even remotely ethical or fair that I should have to pay all the same fees 6 months later to another carrier for a new 2 year contract.
I have lived in the 54935 zip code the entire time and tmobile has made it clear that they are eventually going to cancel all customers in this region.
My costs have included:
3 activation fees = $105
Razr = $100
Razr2 = $200
Nokia = $100
They have said I will be receiving a prorated refund for equipment purchased of $30.00 and that's it.
I am going to sue them in small claims and hope that a class action suit is filed. They have sold service to people knowing that they could not adequately service the contract. Just because a contract has wording that lets you out of a contract does not mean you automatically get out of it. If you knew the contract you were offering was worthless (ie roaming/coverage) then you entered the contract with malice and you are in violation. Specifically the Fair Credit Act and the FCC both cover this type of behavior with regard to service providers and deception. And they are not allowed to hide behind fine print.
I spoke to ATT and was told that tmobile lost their contract with them and that is why some of this is happening.
By all means feel free to contact me to be added to a growing list of individuals who are interested in being represented in a class action lawsuit against tmobile.

This is t mobile's way of covering thier ass due to the small size me thier network. they have the smallest nationwide network in america, so naturally your going to roam more often with them. go with a better provider like sprint or alltel.
